Commercial Description:
Blonde ales are characterized by a crisp, clean, light-styled palate—basically, a more characterful but similar profile to many mass-marketed American beers. The challenge when making lighter ales is producing the lighter palate without reducing the body, balance and ultimately the cleanliness of flavor. We use two techniques. First, we use almost all diastatic malts and mash at about 151° Farenheit for as short a time as possible. Second, we ferment the beer at 64 degrees Farenheit. After four days the temperature is raised a degree a day until it is at 67 or 68° Farenheit. We use Briess 2-row, Wheat and 10L Munich Malts, and Mt. Hood and German select hops. It all adds up to make a perfect transition beer for those who haven’t yet developed a taste for fuller-bodied beers.

Clear golden with a white head. Mild grainy pale malt aroma. Medium/light body. Semi dry flavor is bready pale malt grist, with a nicely bitter finish.

I sampled BBC Freestone Blonde Ale on draft at Yogi’s in Bloomington. I was very dissapointed with this beer. No head, no aroma and very watery taste. The only positive is that this is brewed in Bloomington. Go Hoosiers!

Draught at the brewpub. Hardly any aroma, perhaps a touch of lemon cleaner. Clear golden pour, no head. Citric, lightly sour with bg grain notes, not very robust. No real hopping, light-medium body, and on the whole, another boring rendition of a boring style.

Clear straw body, white head. Aroma is mild, medium sweet, light grassy, biscuit. Taste is medium sweet, grassy, light biscuit, mild/medium bitterness. Watery light body. Nice for what it is -- has legit bitterness, hopefully it can help the college kids move past the macros.
