mgoy (305), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Apr 18, 2008 On tap at the brewery. Bloomington Joes Java Porter is black in color with a tan head. The aroma is very plesant and filled with coffee and roasted malts. The taste, however, is very one dimensional. All you get is coffee. This is not a complox porter. sneagrams3 (1498), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 7, 2007 Tasted 11/6/07. Growler from Dan. Murky brown hue with a moldy off-white head. Aromas of java coffee brwonies and toasted roasted malts. Medium bodied with a fruity berry undertone. Toasty malts. Bready and tart. Acidic coffee flavors. Nice porter base flavors and the java nicely amps up the palate. Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 20, 2007 A stron java quality, tan head, black body. Decent mouth feel. Good on nitrous. PhysZac (69), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Jan 23, 2006 Tap at McCris Deli in B-town. Served in an English pint (damn them). Dark black with mahogany rays. What little head there was had a brown fizzy color. Aroma was strongly coffee with little else. Coffee flavor was like a dark roast. It was balanced and not overpowering. Watery mouthfeel was great with the meal. A very enjoyable brew. BBB63 (3865), La Porte, Indiana, USA Nov 28, 2005 Tap at Yogi’s Sportsbar: Nearly opaque with a small head and good lace. The aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, caramel, cashews, smoke, prune, and grassy hops. The taste is very much coffee upfront with a subdued mocha and smoky background. Nice grassy and mild pine hop bitterness on the finish. The feel is thin and watery, lively and easy to drink. Once the shock of the coffee wares off, it turned into a pretty good brew.
