Commercial Description:
A well-defined hop flavor and aroma distinguish this classic beer. American-Style Pale Ales are among this country’s most distinctive brews; few beer drinkers can pass up the flowery, slightly dry yet full-bodied flavor of such popular brands as Anchor Liberty and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. To create our Quarrymen Pale Ale, we start with London ale yeast. Its slightly mineral character is countered by a larger proportion of hops than some popular American-style pale ales utilize. Pitching rate is also a factor in the final hop flavor and aroma. We use Schrier pale malt and crystal malt; and the hops are all Cascade with Nugget used for bittering. As ever, we do not filter the beer. The Quarrymen Pale Ale is a dry hopped beer with a lowered carbonation level, which seems to accent the hop flavor.

Clear gold with a white head, nice lacing. Mild floral hop and pale malty aromas. Medium body. Decent flavors of pale bready malts with a nice floral hop twang to finish. Not too bad.

I sampled BBC Quarrymen Pale Ale on draft at Yogi’s in Bloomington. I enjoyed the nice head, but was hoping for a more flavorful or creamy finish. The taste was mossy and watery and the aroma was not special.

Tap at Nicks: Coppery hue with a small but lasting head and some lacde. The aroma has notes of grain, caramel, aromatic and slight piney hops, and some dusty yeast character. The taste is balanced between the sweeter malts and a light-handed bitters. Not much depth but drinkable. Will do in a pinch.

Pours orange with a fine head. Sweet malt body with a clean hop finish. Lightly watery mouth feel, but not bad.

Draught at the brewpub. Judging by past ratings, seems to have improved considerably over the years. Clear orange-amber pour, creamy white head. Sweet hoppy (Cascade) aroma. Bittersweet taste, finishes clean with a bit of a chalky feel, but only faintly. Lightly fruity. Classic pale ale taste! Medium body tastes much fuller than it is, aftertaste is dry and malty. Overall, a good session!

Pours cloudy pale yellow with a huge white head. Smells of yeast and slightly caramel malt and a little piney hop. Taste is too much like a belgian with heavy yeasty notes. Aftertaste is yeasty type of color that I dislike. Not that great.

Draft. Medium amberish in color with a small head. Slight hoppiness in the nose- not strong, but it is pleasant. Flavor isn’t anything worth writing home about... slightly hoppy, but has a bland maltiness in there too.
