COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with a combination of wheat and barley, weiss beers are among the most distinctive ales made in the world. Combining a light palate with a rich body and fruity tones, weiss beers are enjoyed both as transition beers and as a special treat for enthusiasts. Our Weiss combines wheat, Munich malt and American 2-Row malt. The system we use limits us to a single infusion mash at about 153° F. However, our mash tun (by Specific Mechanical) is great. It’s almost impossible to get a stuck run-off. The hops used are Mount Hood and Tettenanger added in two additions, the latest being at 15 before the end of the boil. The yeast is the new Wyeast Weizen strain. Predictably, it performed well at about 64 to 66° F, producing a light clove and lemon aroma gently laced with banana. We serve this absolutely unfined (and, of course, unfiltered). It is put into kegs instead of a serving tank to conserve tank space; and because of this the yeast was falling out before the tank was done, causing the Weisen to be too clear. Now the bartenders merely roll each keg before it is tapped, distributing plenty of tasty yeast to please the “mit hefe” lovers.

Tap. Light wheat and apple aroma. Pale yellow color with small head. Lightly sweet lemon/orange and wheat malt flavor. Light, easy drinking beer.

On tap at the brewpub. Medium, faintly cloudy pale orange pour with a lively head. Nose is old lemon, yeast, and a dose of bitter. Mouthfeel is prickly, perhaps a bit too much so, but also nicely spicy in places. Young grass and yeast in the taste, along with citrus and the usual spice suspects. A more than decent effort.

Had this at Scott’y Brewhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Opaque, light orange pour with a thick, foamy, almost milky white head, nose of spice, orange, coriander, clove, and a bit of incense. Smooth drinking, easy on the palate. My 23oz’er was delicious.

Tragically underrated in my opinion. This beer does have a hard time deciding if it wants to be a Weiss, wheat, or shandy-type beer, but what it really is, is tasty. Pours a nice golden yellow with a thin white head and a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice: spice, bananna, clove, a touch of smoke and a hint of corriander. Nice and sharp on the palate, without being too overpowering. All of the aspects of the aroma really come through, dominated by the bannana and clove. The smokiness adds a lot to the flavor, but never takes away. Slightly sour as well. I enjoyed this a lot.

Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy golden body. Aroma is citric, wheaten, but faint. Taste is loaded with banana, quite unexpected if judging by the smell. Nice lemon, but the whole is somewhat artificial - somewhat more of a shandy than a Weissbier. Body is thin, smooth mg.

Pours cloudy yellow with a creamy, white head. Strong aroma of bananas and spices. Not a strong mouth feel, but a fairly complex array of bananas, cinnamon, and spices are there with a nutty aftertaste. Very much like a banana split.

Draft. Deeper yellowish to light orange with a small head. Light spices in the nose (and flavor), with a bit of wheatiness... Not a bad offering, but nothing extraordinary.

Perfect for summer time, the lighter bodied ale gives off hints of banana and clove without tasting too sweet.

Decent wheat beer. Lightly orange hue with a fair amount of haze and sediment. Aroma is yeasty and citrusy with some spicy tones. Flavor is a little mild, moderatly yeasty and lightly hopped, light spices and moderate citrus tones with hints of bannana. Could use a little more of everything, but nice and smooth and decent.

Hazy blonde with a nice banana and yeast aroma. Tart taste and pleasant bubble gum, with notes of spices, cloves. Medium bodied. (July 31 at Indiana Microbrewers Festival)
