Toasted cereal malt backbone. A bit thin and watery. A touch of caramel. Some grain and fruit notes. A sour tart component and a little grass.

Originally reviewed: 9/11/09. I’m always excited to see a new beer come out of NC, and even more excited when that beer is an Oktoberfest.
Poured into my pint glass a clear dark amber/orange with a thick beige head on top. Retention is weak, but it leave some lacing. Smells earthy and a little dull. Not a whole lot going on there.
The mouth is creamy, but with just enough carbonation to give a little zip. Well done. I wasn’t expecting much in the flavor, as the rest of their offerings are pretty average, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Nice caramel kick at the onset, full bready mouth throughout, and finishes slightly bitter sweet. This is balanced and plenty drinkable. I could have a few more of these for sure. This may be one my go-to’s for the fall. Recommend.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 kerenmk (413) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - JAN 16, 2012
Bottle, beer of the month club. Pours hazy copper with a small, white foam head. Some honey, some flowers and malt aroma. Mouth - bitter with a hint of sour that disappears when left standing for a few minutes. Oily, medium carbonation, light body, a little sour finish. Past its prime, bu not too bad considering.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Cybercat (1902) - Georgia, USA - DEC 30, 2011
Strong, sweet aroma has tones of molasses, caramel and malt with a hint of cloves. It pours a nice clear dark amber with a fairly thick and fluffy ivory head that leaves barely any lacing. Malty flavor has subtle fruity, caramel and molasses notes and just a touch of spice. Smooth texture has average body and typical fizziness, leaving a bit of a malty, spicy, fruity finish. Not the best, but certainly worthy of at least a try.

12/26/11. 12oz bottle courtesy Cavie! Yesssss. Clear red pour with a small khaki head that fades and laces in tiny loops. Malty aroma with dust, caramel, burnt sugars, a touch of tartness, and minerally tap water. Sweet entry as well with burnt caramel, even more sourness, toasty bread, minerals, and lingering breads. Not bad.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 DSG (3004) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - DEC 14, 2011
Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear amber color with a medium off-white head. Malty aroma of caramel, toasted bread, light fruitiness and some signs of infection. Sweetish flavor with malt, a bit of caramel, and some sourish bread and sourish fruits notes, probably the result of an infection. Light-medium-bodied. Not good, but still drinkable.
