Blowing Rock Summer Ale is brewed in style of a Belgian White, or Witbier. Typical of the style, the product is fermented with a Belgian "wit" yeast strain. This hazy ale is characterized by a grain bill of pale malts and white wheat. The kettle hopping is signature Czech Saaz, and late kettleadditions of orange peel and coriander spice further accentuate this highlyenjoyable summer ale.

Twelve ounce bottle from Beer Of The (Every Other) Month Club, tasted on June 28, 2013. Crisp sweet/spicy aroma, quite cloudy yellow/orange color, very small white head, heavier body than usual for this style, citrus/spicy flavor compromised by unpleasant bitterness and astringency. A shame the taste didn’t live up to the aroma’s promise.

12 oz. bottle from a monthly beer club. Pours a real cloudy yellowish, easily identifiable as a witbier by appearance alone. The aroma is very citrusy with definitely orange and hints at lemon. There’s a bit of woody hoppiness as well. The flavor is a bit stickier than I like from the style. It makes the sweet fruity notes seem like hard candy. There’s token grainy flavor and a semi-spiced finish.

Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is citrus, wheat, earthy and bread. Taste is sweet with a spicy bitterness. Light bodied. Much better then the APA by Blowing Rock.

Draft samplee at the 9th Annual Summertime Brews Festival, Greensboro, 7/13/13. Pours a hazy yellow color with a large frothy white head. Aroma of wheat, citrus and herbal hops. The taste is dry wheat, spice, caramel, citrus hops. Medium bodied. Very drinkable.

Bottle - from Ale in the Mail. Light golden - very cloudy. Mostly clean aroma with a hint of cheese. Pretty bland wheat flavor with a bit of spice. Disappointing.

A slightly opaque golden body with a fast fading head. Aroma had hints of mild citrus, mostly lemon. A nice hint of toasted malts and some mild spices. Flavor was similar although not much flavors from the spice. Some mild bitterness in the finish. Easy to drink.

Originally reviewed: 5/6/10. A new offering from Boone Brewing Co. 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a very thick cloudy gold with a small white head capping it off. Left no lace or webbing. Scents of pineapple, hay, spices, and a little yeast. The body is crisp at the onset but creamy smooth on the finish. Carbonation level is moderate. This is a bready, doughy beer for sure. Rather than a tart spicy fruitiness as the main player, the wheat really mellows this out and is king. Finish is mild. Bitterness is low. There’s a bit of an acidic orange juice-like flavor noted, but it is fleeting. This is a good beer. Might not be the best representation of the style, but it was refreshing as all get out. I could down several of these on a hot summer afternoon if I had to. Recommend.

Bottle from Paula. Pours hazy orange tinged gold with a transient white head. It smells rather orange. With something like a musty spice character. Flavor is rather orange - but coriander seems there. It’s rather soft and pleasant in the mouth. Finishes rather bland. Still, it seems more drinkable in quantity than many a wit. Would go well at the beach.

Golden orange pour with a very rapidly fading white head. Faint metallic aroma. Hint of orange and other fruity esters. No hop aroma detected. Distracting metallic flavor detracts from nice fruity esters and lots of other malty flavors. Medium bodied mouthfeel with medium carbonation (I’d prefer a bit more). Interesting beer. Might be great if slight metallic flavors/aromas were eliminated.

12oz bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades. Aroma was weak with hints of wheaty malt and citrus. Taste of bready yeast and a slight citrusy flavor up front, and finishes off with a creamy taste from the pale malts. Well balanced but lacks anthing that stands out.
