Originally reviewed: 2/5/09. Pours a clear amber color with about an inch-sized head on it. This disappears to ring and a thin sheet. Decent webbing, but not the most sticky. Smells of vanilla, clove, cherries, flowers, and some mineral presence. This is not a bad winter warmer at all. I’ve only started drinking these this winter, but I’ve had worse for sure. Can taste the mild vanilla flavor, but the spiciness that I expect from this style is lacking. Slight hop bite at the finish, but nothing spectacular. Mouthfeel is creamy, but with just enough snap in the carbonation. Drinks ok. Drinkability is lower for me, b/c I really couldn’t see myself wanting to drink one after the other. Not bad though. Check it out if you get the chance.

Pours deep amber into the glass, with a light eggshell head that diminishes to a tiny ring of lace. Sweet malt, lots of prune and light herbal flavors. The finish is leafy green and vegetal, with a sweet roasted malt undercurrent. The mouthfeel is smooth, with a substantive mouthfeel and medium body. Drinkable with light complexities. Decent.

Decent. Lightly spicy, but mainly sweet malts. Dark fruit - mostly prune - taste. Not much else going on. Sweet finish, but not overly so. Fairly drinkable.

Bottle courtesy of durhambeer. Pours copper with an off white head. Smells of earth, grassy, spicy. Tastes spicy and sweet with some light citrussy hints on the finish.

Bottle back from NC. Pours a deep auburn color. Looks good but the taste is a little unbalanced and off, aroma too. A little bit syrupy. Some sweetness in the aroma. Plum, prune, molasses. There is a little bit of alcohol in there. A squinting sort of sourness and pungent flavor make this a little disorienting.

Bottle sampled at Durham World Beer Festival. Pours slightly hazy dark amber, closer to brown. Small off-white head. Not overly spicy for winter beer. Toffee and mild fruits come through, but mostly caramel malt. I’d drink this again.

Thanks Butters. Bottle pours an off-white head with and amber body. Aroma is caramel and some fruit. Flavor is sweet bread. Finish is caramel with an interesting bitterness.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy dark orange with thin beige head. The aroma is strong tangerine with some caramel and toffee and a few light spicy notes. The flavor is toffee, cinnamon, some interesting fruity hops, and notes of raisin and anise. The finish is woody with a slight earthy touch and some clove notes. The warmer my glass gets, the more pronounced the spices become, with some nutmeg and allspice popping up. Dunno if the other guys had a bad bottle or what, but I’m enjoying this one.

Bottle shared by Butters @ the Barrios tasting. Poured a hazy brown with an off-white head that left light lace. Lots of alcohol in the aroma but also caramel, and a light fruit and spice background. The flavor had caramel and a hop background but also a sweetness to it almost like candy corn. Medium body, sweet throughout, and a light spiced ending.
