4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - JUL 16, 2004
12 oz bottle. Extremely dark, translucent cola brown. Small lasting tan head. Big earthy acerbic aroma: black licorice, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, yummy. Delightful body, rich and full, with light carbonation apparent mostly near the finish. Chocolate, nuts, toasted grain, with a strong coffee ground finishing bitterness. Excellent.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 ClarkVV (3578) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 29, 2004
UPDATED: AUG 28, 2004 2004 bottle. Light fiery red color, decent beige colored head. Very clear. Not much of a smell, a bit of caramel and barley, maybe a touch of hops. Flavor is quite dry, grains, and a bit of caramel malt. Hops are mildly sharp on the finish. Tastes like mineral water and body is medium-light with a firm carbonation. No real complexity. I’m not seein the smoked malts, nor does the brewer mention them. This just tastes like an average amber ale.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Schroppfy (2319) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - MAR 22, 2004
"roasted" anything in here - more like chemically treated. Wow. An order of magnitude worse than the other altbiers I've had - sooo artificially sweet, - where's any bit of possible crispness? German hops? I wanted to like this, and it didn't seem spoiled - a sweet cloying concoction. Sorry.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (6707) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 14, 2004
Red brown ale with malty nutty nose with some tartness. Roasted malt and nuts come out but there is some tartness which is a bit misplaced. Sharp hops come in the end. Medium body.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rockinout (966) - Kent, Ohio, USA - JAN 31, 2004
Caramel colored, with a taste of cola, root beer, caramel. Different and drinkable.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 daboskabouter (1470) - Fergus, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 9, 2004
Dark bright auburn color with some odd flakey things floating around. Choclatey nose with hints of citrus - fresh smelling. The body is lightly spritzy with notes of chocolate and citrus notes towards the end, lightly bitter. Nice lager, not sure if it's really an alt, tastes like more of a light bock, but a nice mild and tastey beer.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 redlem (1203) - Ohio, USA - JAN 5, 2004
Dark caramel color with a medium creamy off-white head. An odd mushroom like aroma. The malt taste is not as strong as the aroma. Takes time getting used to.
