vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Mar 16, 2008 Updated: Mar 20, 2008 This is a oak bourbon barrle aged version of Temporary Insanity Imperial Stout with a distinctive flavor from the original. The beer pours a dark cola-brown with a light beige head which persists as a thin ring. The aroma is noticeably that of sweet bourbon. There’s a hint of chocolate malt as well. The aging has smoothed out the flavor and there is little of the hop bitterness of the original. The flavor of the whiskey is prominent. Roasted malt and dark chocolate notes are detected. There’s a warming alcohol presence as well. I don’t know the actual ABV, but my estimate it’s on the higher side, maybe close to 10-12%. The aftertaste adds a slight hop bitterness.
Numenor (816), Richmond, Virginia, USA Apr 29, 2008 On tap Cap. Ale - Midlothian. Completely black body with a nice tan head. Aroma is beautiful, great burbon accents with a nice malt backing. Taste is again, heavy on the burbon with a nice sweet malty body and some dark fruit hints. Ending is smooth with not much in the way of offensive qualities. The best beer I’ve had from this brewery. maniac (1921), Richmond, Virginia, USA Apr 27, 2008 On tap at Capital Ale House - Midlothian. Dark brown body with ruby highlights and a creamy light tan head. Bourbon aroma with light caramel and molassas. Huge bourbon flavor with more molassas and a sturdy hop bite. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Quite likely the best beer that I’ve had from Blue & Gray so far.
