vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Dec 24, 2007 Pours murky iced tea color, very thin head fades quickly. Aroma is strong cinammon and nutmeg. Taste has has cinnamon, nutmeg, carmel - typical mulled cider flavors. A bit of citrus hops in the background. A pretty nice spiced winter ale.
Kinz (1916), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Mar 6, 2007 I’ll admit to avoiding this one for a while, since I usually don’t go for these holiday spiced beers. They often taste like sucking on potpourri. But spring approaches, and it was cold out tonight, so it seemed fitting to open this up. Cloudy amber, decent small head. Aroma is the traditional pumpkin pie, with cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and alspice. Flavor frankly isn’t that bad, with the caramel body actually balanced nicely by the spices. They could easily call this a "pumpkin" beer and release it around Halloween as well. Not my favorite style, but actually rather well done. The_Beer_God (2855), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jan 17, 2006 Bottle. Sample courtesy of my friend Vince(he got it as a gift). Copper body with a small tan head. Nose is nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, light clove, hints of cranberry, and pecan pie. Taste is more pecan pie, fruit cake, gingerbread cookies, cranberry sauce, caramel and chewy malts. Body is light-medium with light bubbly carbonation. Finishes with lots of spice (ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg), oatmeal cookies, and hints of fruit cake. Not bad! outerupt (133), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 10, 2006 Poured from 22oz. bottle to pint glass. I enjoy a nice unfiltered ale and man this one is a seriously cloudy affair. All those extra ingredients are visible upon first pour. The head is nice much like the Fred Red and the colour is a deep reddish brown. The spices are well applied here giving notes of apple cider, mulled wine, and minced meat pie. The finish is a touch off, perhaps because as the spices and malt dissipate you are left with the tingle of a slightly overly carbonated beer. All around a pretty nice effort for the season.
