Cask at the Grape and Grain Spring Beer Festival, Crystal Palace. Clear brown pour with a beige head. Toffee, malt and treacle nose. Caramel, sweet roast flavour with a smidgen of licorice. Sweet malt laden finish. Not too bad.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 gunnar (2634) - Sandnes, NORWAY - JUL 25, 2011
Cask at the Blue Anchor, Helston, as Jubilee IPA. Pours clear golden with a small white head.Aroma is malty. Taste is very light, good nutty malts and some candy like sweetness, light in hops, moderate dry end.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 7, 2011
aka Pale Ale. Slightly hazy blond. Earthy and almost herbal aroma. Earthy, a little funky palate with hints of pedio. If you’ve seen the brewery you woudn’t be surprised by the funk. Interesting beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beershine (4711) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - MAR 10, 2011
Cask as Jubilee IPA at the Blue Anchor. Pale gold with a hint of pedio in the aroma but tastes fabulous. Nice nutty malts. Rich for how light it is with yummy floral hops.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 imdownthepub (7470) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 30, 2007
Bottle conditioned as Jubilee Ale 2002, 330ml. From The Blue Anchor, Helston, Cornwall. Orange gold, hazed with slight white head. Honeyed smooth beer, aged reasonably to allow the hops to be amalgamated into the overall flavour. Some sherry like qualitties. Malty sweet finish.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ALLOVATE (1705) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - AUG 2, 2006
Cask, handpump @ the Blue Anchor Inn, Helston, Cornwall
Bright, medium, ruddy gold with a short lasting, frothy white head that left some firm lacing. Fresh sapped honey and clean, grainy malt in the aroma. Hops hit hard at first in the mouth, grassy, bitter and just a touch metallic with some herbal foundations. Overlapping the hops are some grainy, fresh pale and toasted malts that ensure this one remains dry. Zingy, bitter and light on the palate and finish, this remained quite fresh an delicate for a cask conditioned ale. Very pleasant drinking. One for a long session.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Fingolfin (4) - ENGLAND - SEP 20, 2005 does not count
Disappointing after reading its write-up in GBG. Okay taste, but no length - very thin. (And this was from the Blue Anchor pub itself)
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 4, 2005
Golden colour. Scant aroma - maybe a hint of musty wood, but its only marginally discernible and may just be down to expectation. Fairly dry. Maybe a touch of soft juicy fruit but there’s no real depth there. Quite thin. Clean and palatable enough but, in truth, there’s not really a lot happening. Bright bottled from cask (gravity dispense), Cambridge Beer Festival 2005.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sigmund (3710) - Hafrsfjord, NORWAY - MAY 29, 2005
Cask conditioned at the 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival, gravity dispense. Allegedly "brewed in some of the oldest brewery equipment in the UK, possibly some of the oldest in Europe". This should suggest that this beer is now again brewed in the refurbished Blue Anchor brewery, not at Keltek. The festival programme also lists it as brewed in the Blue Anchor. Golden colour. Hops and malt vinegar in the aroma, hints of cowshed. Decent hoppy flavour, but honestly: not that much out of the ordinary.
