Not too much hops in the smell but its there. Darker than a pale lager but just as clear. Bigger bitter APA initial flavors that border on IPA territory. Dull green grapefruit rind experience. Linger is a bitterrish medicinal personality that is probably more than most APA.

[3489-20101120] Tap. Grapefruit citrus hops and resin aroma. Hazy, brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Initial grapefruit orange hops flavour has muted cinnamon butter throughout. Medium body. Sneaky! Great balance, tasty.

2010-11-20. Hazy dark amber body with a modest off-white head. 3+ Oddly spicy flavour makes me question if I got the right beer at first, almost like a winter ale? Modest sweet malt core, light bitterness throughout, odd citrus finish. Sweet orange citrus aroma, hint of spice like a christmas cake character. Smooth average palate. Okay, not what I expected. Draft at Coles, Buffalo

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2011 Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a medium sized creamy beige head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was dry, sour, nutty and had moderate notes of grapefruit and pine. The flavor was bitter and tart with notes of perfume, flowers and lemon. The finish was long, dry and bitter with lingering hops. Medium body. Solid.

On tap, at brewpub. Pours a hazy dark copper with a small creamy beige head. Pretty nice citrusy nose with some light caramel. Moderate bitterness, not especially bright, with a slightly husky caramel malt base. Medium bodied, a little grainy, with fizzy carbonation. OK, but not anything special.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nate (3093) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 28, 2009
Sampled at the Slippery Rock Beer Festival. Nice hoppy aroma on this one. Fresh hops with a bit of grassy character. Light grain with malt sweetness, but mainly hoppy. Medium orange amber with light haze, topped with foamy lacing head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts with light malt sweetness and tons of fresh grassy hop character, resinous. Light citrus and carbonic acidity. Finishes strong with hop bite and good bitterness.

On tap at Blue Canoe. Pours a slightly murky orange with a pretty decent pillowy head and very light aromas of citrus. Flavor is sharp with hops and very bitter... grapefruit peel and lemon rind, and a touch of pine. Still, this beer was a little unbalanced toward the hop tea side of the spectrum, but it was still good.

Pours rather dark amber for a pale ale with adequate head, taste is a nice combo of malt and citrus, I’ve had better APA’s with more citrus/grapefruit flavor and aroma, The use of Willamette hops for dry hopping is a bad choice IMO.

Classic APA.......The Blue Canoe is really someplace special, and Matt can make some beers..........nice citrusy aroma, hops do not overtake this brew, which is a good thing. Slight hop taste, of minor grapefruit with a nice malt balance.
