3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MAP (1133) - Lakewood, Ohio, USA - MAY 18, 2005
Canned, courtesy of SJP. Holy moly! a stout beer from China! Aroma is subltle malt and chalky roasted quality. Flavor is...well, actually good. I think this is the perfect going away beer, since its does seem to have some beer in it. There isnt a whole lot of flavor, but hell, its a great break from the normal beers here.

Perhaps my brother overestimated this beer. I’m going by notes here, but I thought it had a nice roasted grain aroma, but a very thin palate and the flavor was, well, very similiar to Beck’s Dark. Now maybe that’s just me. But is pretty good for a dark Chinese beer.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2010 Can, courtesy of Gr0ve. A pity attempt on a stout, but at least they tried. The pour were decent but pale, with a clear, brown body, and a minimal beige head. The aroma was syrupy with some coffee and caramel. Quite syrupy flavor too, with cooked vegetables and some roasted malt. Thin and watery, finishing with cooked vegetables and coffee. I found it more interesting than Chinese pale lagers I’ve had, but I’ll probably prefer the pale lagers if I were to drink a few. Rating: 3-3-3-2-6-1.7. 080216
Can.It’s a clear, dark brown beer almost without head. Malt, caramel and roasted aromas. The flavor has caramel and roasted malts. Metallic finish, lacking on any hoppy impacts. Medium to thin, almost watery. Dry. An easy drinkable beer, but dead boring. 100331

THIS might be a great beer for a BBQ or some other hot summer day party. Does not need refrigeration, as it’s quite drinkable right off the shelf. It’s a bit light for a dark beer, and it’s also a bit sweet and carbonated. Head disappears as fast as Coke. Still better than the local pilsners that prevail the local market among the Chinese. I purchased it in Changping District of Beijing for 2.7RMB, (approx $.35 US) in 12-ounce cans.

Dark brown color with fine head. Thin coffee aroma. Watery slightly roasted cofee flavor. Nothing to with a stout beer.

Can 0,35 l. Dark ruby red, almost black. Beige head, disappears almost completely. Nose is slightly funky buttery, old newspaper. Flavor is subtly sweet & sour, very very faintly grassy hoppy with some stale mild old coffee. Thinnest stout I’ve had, feels like a half lager half stout. Not bad, but it’s definately a drinker, not a sipper.

Caramel, syrup, coffee.
A weird drink. Not very beer-like at all.

350 ml can thanks to omhper! On July 9, 2009 BB 2008-02-22 Clear dark red color, almost to black. Dense tan head. Bleuberry, red currants, a bit malty scent, also acidic. Metallic, sweet, berry taste. Thin mouthfeel, low bitterness.

350 ml can. Dark brown. Crystal clear. Aroma is hints of caramel and toffee. Soft texture. Chewy chocolate flavours with a hint of caramel and nuts. Crisp carbonation. Little hops to be found initially, but towards the end there is a crisp and refreshing hop bitterness. Not bad, but I would not call this a stout. It is more like a dry brown ale.
