0.8 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2012 I have tried several different batches over the years including this most recent incarnation and they have all been undrinkable. Non of them taste like actual honey, rather boiled high-fructose corn syrup, acetone and nail polish remover. The last one you couldn’t get over the over-powering sulphite aroma and flavor. A Mead enthusiast buddy of mine tried the latest bottle I had and said, "uhgg this is even worst than the last."
The color is clear and pleasing but that is the only redeeming quality of this "Mead."
The owners who have publicly stated they plan on becoming multimillionaires by making a consistent product need to understand that making a constantly abysmal product is going to get them nowhere. Moreover they are contributing to further giving Mead a bad reputation. It is shameful to see.
I don’t recommend this product.

Pours a pale yellow. Aroma is honey, wax, and lightly floral. Flavor is mild. Light honey, and hints of earthy wax. Light. Botanical notes with. Hints of vanilla. Thin and mild in flavor not too bad.

This stuff’s not very good. Tastes like hairspray and sugar water. Yep, this is the worst mead I have ever tried

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, shared by fiulijn (thanks Alex), pours a clear yellow with no head / no bubbles. Aroma brings out loads of honey, a flower meadow, and some green apple-like light fruits. Flavour of green apples, honey, loads of flowers (like a fresh spring meadow) and a moderate sweetness. Not the most complex, with a finish leaving notes of white wine, honey and moderate sweetness. Good stuff.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Corked bottle from Elizabeth Station, Bellingham, WA, 13% ABV
It pours a bright yellow color. Aroma of mead, with some honey, orchid flowers, and light scent of fig tree sap and of straws.
It has a good mouthfeel, with a moderate sweetness level; flavor of ordinary mead, with some honey notes and a white wine character, including a very light final bitterness and minimal tannins in the end.
The most evident association would be with a sweetish Riesling.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Blue Collar Mead has a very distinct taste, very sweet and raw. I would definitely have it again. It’s good to have a (meadery?) right here in town. Blue Collar Mead has since been upped to 13% alcohol.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
It is interesting that Mead is found on a beer site. If I think about this as a wine, it is much dryer and less sweet than I thought. I agree though, this is not a very good beer. Descent mead when compared with Redstone, which is much sweeter and personally more difficult to drink. Blue Dog seems to go much better with Mexican and spicy foods.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
From the bottle as part of a mead flight at Sunset Grill on 11/17/07
Deep bronze-yellow color with a flash of white bubbles on top. Medium-low leg density, still and clear.
I get medicinal, almost smokey phenols in the nose that arrive in stride with a brandy-like tartness. Smells like someone through a little grape juice in here, though it comes through rather harshly and aided by the medicinal phenols, it’s rather overpowering and brash. Dry wood and rather dry caramel notes top off the sweet honey, with a dull plastic note on the very end. Medium strength of aroma, fair amount of alcohol, some obvious fermentation flaws.
It starts out with a fairly respectable honey-meets-brandy flavor but grows alcoholic quickly, on the end. Slightly waxy/plasticy and with enough chewy honey texture, though the sweetness is sapped by the phenols and dry alcohol heat. Nothing particular fresh, elegant, rich or complex here.

3.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 20/20
Lots of body, but not very sweet at all. Band-aid flavor. Rather sourish and pretty thick. Ugh.
