OG 13.5 Plato, 31 IBUs, 6% Alc. by Vol. "Red Frog Ale: A little aggressive, at times wild, but like any good red head should be... always dependable. A generous addition of hops late in the boil and after fermentation help balance this beer's malty profile. Enjoy with your favorite red head, brunette, baldy, or whoever. Just Enjoy It!

Bomber. Dark copper colored body with a dense light khaki head. The aroma is grapefruit with some caramel and shoe leather. The taste has some grapefruit and plums. There is a decent caramel balance with a slightly bitter finish. Pretty good for an amber.

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours reddish black with a thick beige head and a perfumy malt aroma. There is a robust smoked malt flavor with a dry slightly bitter finish.

Bomber from the Vacaville BevMo. 6.5% ABV. Pours dark ruddy copper with a creamy beige head that was a little fizzy. Aroma is dark roast malt with some resin. Flavor seems pretty much the same. Might be a hint of chocolate in the aftertaste, but this is fairly hoppy stuff. Better than the average amber.

Clear amber/dark red with a strong two-finger head that left a thick film and spotty lace. Moderate caramel malt aromas with floral hops. Flavors follow, and include toast and notes of nuts. Medium body, rich carbonation, sticky mouthfeel and a sweet bread finish.

Bomber from BevMo. Description is the same but stats have changed: OG 14° Plato, 40 IBU’s, 6.5% ABV. Poured into an English pint glass. Color is a deep amber with a tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, some cereal notes, and mild hops. Flavor is very mild with light maltiness up front followed by mild resinous hop flavors. Palate is light/medium bodied with a slightly astringent finish. Overall a decent brew that’s fairly well balanced but I prefer by ambers/reds to be more malty and sweet than this.

At Oregon Brewers Festival. Herbacious flavor and caramel with slight citrus. Weird. Tastes dirty and earthy for some reason. Yuck. Pouring the rest in the drain.

Bottle:   Dirty caramel, deep reddish hue, large frothy sand colored head, clumpy lacing, vibrant carbonation.   Subtle earthy/soily malt nose, slightly sweet/sugary in a cane sugar sorta way.   Picking up some Honeycomb like cereal, along with apple skin.   Very soft earthen malts on the tongue, mild sweetness, but does have a touch of astringency.   Finishes with that Honeycomb cereal like sweetness.   For an Amber its rather soft both in the malt and hop department.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate at best.   A little cerealy after the finish.   Tiz okay, slightly rough, and not malty nor hopped up enough.   Honeycomb cereal flavor detracts as well.

Bottle.

Absolutely undrinkable. Horribly astringent, possible hint of a decent base destroyed by stewed vegetables and solvent. Drain pour.

Bottle. An amber/brownish color. Not much in the way of taste. Fairly generic hoppiness with a citrus aftertaste. A faint taste of an earthy, almost dirt flavor, and not in a good way. Not recommended.

cbkschubert (2752) - Cochise Co., Arizona, USA - JUN 25, 2009
UPDATED: JUN 26, 2009 22 oz. bottle from BevMo (SD) - Pours a deep copper color with a one finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is lightly sweetened toasted caramel malt and floral hops. Flavor has a sharp bitterness to it. Almost metallic. Oxidation? Light to medium body. I would not recommend this beer. This is the second Blue Frog offering I’ve had. Not impressed so far.
