Draft at the brewpub. Had the appearance of muddy chocolate milk with chunkies, no head or lacing, lots of particles that stick to the glass. A truly ugly beer. Aroma of milk chocolate and booze. Taste is gritty and strongly spiked chocolate milk. Something has gone wrong with this batch, and I donít think it should have been served.

Lunch at the brewpub after touring the nearby Bowman Distillery, served in a half-pint glass. Very dark brown color with brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, light coffee, dark chocolate and smoke. Taste is the aroma adding notes of caramel, dark fruitiness and bitter earthy hops. Medium-heavy body, low carbonation, creamy, light palate with roasty finish. I thought this was a decent-okay IS, surprising the body was so light for the ABV.

Bomber courtesy of RABinVA, pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma smells of infection, tart cherries. Oh yeah infected, cherry cough syrup and alcohol on top of some roasted malts. I didnít have high hopes for this one but what an infected mess.

(Growler from Whole Foods) Opaque dark brown with a small, smooth brown head. Dark roast aroma, lots of wood, some dark chocolate, hint of smoke. Velvety full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Sweet and rich malt flavor, wood, alcohol, some chocolate.

Hoppy hints on this imperial stout. Subtleties of coffee. No light will shine through this. 13% alcohol will get you feeling good quickly. Got this in a growler one day after release 2012. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Pours black with a thick tan head. Chocolate aroma. Taste is dark bitter chocolate. Not perfect but dangerously drinkable.

Bottle... Poured near black with a huge, easy forming, frothy, tan head. Some roast and booziness on the nose. Cocoa, whiskey, oak, vanilla, cocoa, and malts all over on this one. Like a dessert in a glass with some serious alcohol kick to it.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 14/20
Cobra (1100) - Banned City, - AUG 6, 2010
22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Itís been aging in my fridge for 3 years now. Small pffttt when opened. Poured out a deep dark brown, with red highlights around the edges. Small tan colored sticky head. Left a decent lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas are of roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, and a whisper of hops. Flavors are of strong roasted coffee, dark chocolate, roasted pecans. Medium mouthfeel, decent, slick, oily. Certainly drinkable after cold aging for 3 years.

Beerman6686 (4351) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 12, 2010
This poured a murky dark brown color with a light brown head. Aroma was roasted malts, some chocolate/caramel sweetness, and some triple C hops. Flavor was lightly roasted, but also not very sweet and finish with a nice hoppy ending. The only thing keeping this one decent is the hops.

22oz bottle from Joe at Hangar 24. Very dark brown, almost black with a very light tan head. Has more of a belgian aroma than an imperial stout. Slightly sour and a little roasty, very different.
