[10/6/13] Cask at CASK Pub & Kitchen in London. Clear golden. Aroma is a bit on the weak side but has some hops, citric and tropical, with overripe fruits and a yeasty note. Flavor has a bit of sweetish malt, light graininess, yeasty notes, fruity hops and a finish with mild bitterness. Light to medium-bodied. Decent but nothing spectacular.

Cask at the Criterion, Leicester. Wow. What a beer! Looks like a strong ale, with a whispy head. Aroma of old socks :-(. Taste is great, very floral with pine and lime taste. Very nice.

Cask at Cross Keys, Chester. Straw colour. Tight white head. I was thinking about what wasn’t quite right about this beer. I never did decide. Even after 4 pints of it ..

A while back I took the wife, before she was the wife, to the monkey park near Stoke. On the way I told her about the underwater monkeys, and the glass tunnel you walk through whilst said underwater monkeys swim by, all around you. I thought nothing of it until at the end of the trip she expressed dismay that we had come to the end without seeing the underwater fellas. I’m sure she would be dead chuffed to know that I’d shared that on here. If you got a load of monkeys sat at a typewriter chances are at some point they’d type something about a beer tasting like someone has had a dump in your mouth. This beer is nothing like that, very clean. I love citra.

Hand-pulled pint in Ye Old Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 29 Jun 2013.
Very pale in looks, weak urine yellow in fact: good white bubbley head that tried to stay the distance, but failed.
As you’d expect from a brew using Citra hops, this leaned heavily towards a citrus based flavour and aroma.
I know this beer is very popular with a lot of Real Ale drinkers and craft beer fans alike, but I’m fed up with so may ’samey’ tasting brews using citrus flavours to refresh us Brits: I want deep amber brews with a malt and hop balance when I go into a pub, not this ’new wave’ of light lager look alikes with lemon duck toilet cleaner as a base!
I’ve tried to score objectively.

Cask, Furnace Inn Derby. A pale brew with a good white head, loads of fruity hops and a hint of sweetish malt, a crackin’ beer, well looked after in this pub, lovely!
