Cask handpull, The Slug, Leicester. Chestnut with a cream halo. Redcurrant and cranberry in the aroma giving way to chocolate orange, soap, rabbit. Chocolate hobnob, husk and cranberry notes. Festive with light roast and blackurrant. Lacks The Monkey’s signature hops maybe, but decent.

Cask at the Caxton Club, Beccles, Suffolk through a sparkler. Deep chestnut with a pleasingly tight cafe creme head. Aroma is unexpectedly hoppy with citrus very much to the fore with a floral malty undercurrent. Medium clean palate, very drinkable. Taste is citrus hops with malty caramel and some fruitiness balancing it very nicely. This is a very surprising and appetising beer.

Cask conditioned Handpump Slug & Lettuce Leicester. A mahogany coloured beer with a loose off-white head. Great fruity hops in this. Verging on but not quite a US amber. Malts are sweet but balance well. Plums and red fruits. Good levels of alcohol. Very tasty and delicious.
