Oh, Blue Moon. How I used to love thee.

Surprising amount of white head; mediocre retention. Aroma is sweet malt, lemon & orange peels, Oxi Clean, clove.

Overly sweet on the palate... tastes like they added sugar. Creamy malt and liquified orange peel mingle with tame yeast and a kiss of that "generic beer taste". Body is surprisingly creamy on my tongue, right about where it should be.

My boss handed this to me on Friday afternoon at my desk, and it's a great "social" beer. I've paid good money for brews much worse than this.

Some of the reviews of this beer are over the top. People, this ain’t Bud Light. In fact, this crafty brew is done a lot better than many real craft beers. Pours just barely on the orange side of yellow with ample white head. Smells a like lemon soap, in a good way. The beer is just a touch too sweet for style. Lively carbonation. I’m a beer geek and typically a beer snob, but this beer is drinkable and ranks up there with many microbrewery versions of the same style. Nice bitter orange flavor.

So, let’s be honest. People rating here have a bent against labels owned by the mass produced mega brewers trying to stake a claim in the micro world. This style of beer was all but extinct 40 years ago. Kudos for this brand (and Coors) sticking it out. I much prefer an Allagash White (or ANY Belgian made white), but when I look at tap handles of Bud, Coors Light, and MGD, seeing the last resort as a Blue Moon, I at least can be somewhat satisfied.

11, 8,8,9,8,8 - 8,45 - 30/5/13

Appearance: Dense hazy orange under a soft bready head which fades into a thin layer that eventually breaks up into small patches. No lace.
Nose: Freshly cut oranges. Orange zest atop white bread ala breakfast rolls. Orange icing sweetness along the sides is a bit off-putting. Generic spicing in the middle. Candied orange peel and grains of paradise.
Palate: Medium weight and full bodied mouthfeel. Orange and white breads intermingle in the middle. Thin on the backside with watery generic spices and dried orange peel. Soggy orange bread.
Final Thoughts: Better than Shock Top but still not a Belgian-style Wit I would willingly choose to drink or drink if someone offered it unless there were a lot of orange slices to make it tolerable. Is it bad? It’s not a drain pour and back in my beer newbie days I drank quite a few 6packs and pints of Blue Moon. As a gateway beer it’s good for what it does – takes people away from the light macro swill of BMC with the only downfall of being left behind for better craft beers.

Full disclosure, I love this style of beer. With that said, this is a shockingly decent mass-produced beer from a company that otherwise strives for (and fails) for mediocrity. Not as good as Hoegarden or some microbrew versions like Allagash White, but if you’re trapped at a place that only offers beers from AB and Coors, you can do worse.

Good go-to beer in a pub or at home. Legit Belgian wheat beer at a commercial microbrew price. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cloudy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma of dank malt, citrus, a bit of diacetyl and banana.

I think this is a great summer Ale. Drinking this ale and watching UFC 160. Good times
