sneagrams3 (1367), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 3, 2008 Tasted 1/8/08. 12oz bottle. Filtered with an amber hue. Spicy aroams with notes of cinnamon and ginger. Pine citrus and mint aromas. Rounded nose. Light to medium bodied and tastes like applesauce. Peppery. but too fruity. Fake sweet. Honey and a mild lime flavor. Sugary and bready. Mild grainy cereal flavor. Too sweet. Too grainy. Too sticky. No real niche or season. Light toast and light palate. Blah!
KawaBomber (147), New Jersey, USA Aug 4, 2008 12oz Bottle ’07: Clear amber w/ a small off-white head. Some slight candy sugar in the aroma, not much else. Flavor is sweet malts. Nothing exciting here...time to move along. Funknmilla (511), Absecon, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2008 12oz bottle....cloudy deep amber..soapy tan head...light aromas of nutmeg & cinnamon a delicate thin lacing forming......the same light cinnamon flavor...light refreshing body..its good...sweet light finish..distinct Belgian characteristics in the finish GarrettB (396), Centennial, Colorado, USA Jul 27, 2008 General rule of thumb - Blue Moon’s not actually that bad. But the seasonal varitieties are not so ambiguous. Even so, I wanted to see what winter’s onset could cough up in Blue Moon’s name, and this ho-hum ale is the result. A thick and dense custard colored head, am amber color, with a cohort of bubbles leisurely drifting through the rusty haze, as if dancing to a banjo in the Bayou, a slow and echoed plink at a time. The Winter Ale’s aromatic essence is simple and straight to the point, though feeble, pellucid and faint. Wimpy, even. A quick whiff takes in a raw pumpkin taste, some autumn type spices (clove, all-spice, cinnamon) and little else. The flavor serves up a meatier experience, with its medium thick palate and a heavy dose of the same autumn spice flavor. I find this beer’s flavor to be dusty, as if the beer itself had somehow laid out too long in an attic, but its sweet too, curtailing some of that excessively aged taste. So, while this isn’t a remarkable beer, it does dish out a handful of spicey flavors: nutmeg, cinnamon sweetness and a general dry and coughing spiciness. That’s a lot of flavor for the price, even if the flavor is not very enticing. Hophead22 (134), Redlands, California, USA Jun 29, 2008 In the bottle.Pours nice, looks nice. Very nice head, stays with the glass rather well. Not a fan of the smell, tin like. Too much malt in my opinion, not a fan. Otherwise ok. Headbanger (958), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2008 12oz bottle(courtesy of RSRIZZO)-An amber body with a nice big off white head. It emits an aroma of malt and sweetness. Taste of malt, belgian yeast, grass, and a little caramel. This light to medium bodied brew is not nearly as good when it was just called their Winter Ale. That had so much caramel and taste. Go back to the old recipe.
