COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Belgium, a Grand Cru is traditionally brewed for special celebrations. This holiday season, there’s definitely something to celebrate: a blue moon on New Year’s Eve. To honor this rare event, we’ve brewed a limited-edition Blue Moon Grand Cru in the US. This small-batch, Artfully Crafted brew incorporates subtle hints of orange peel and coriander and delivers a warm, spicy finish. Garnish with an orange slice and celebrate.

This beer pours a cloudy dull yellow with a medium white head. Initially upon looking at the bottle, the was a lot of floaties (yeast?) in the bottom of the bottle. The aromas are coriander, citrus and light banana. The flavors are pretty much the same: coriander, citrus and light banana. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Not a great Grand Cru, but not that bad either! You should try one! Cheers!

Bottle at Paul’s homebrew day shared by goldtwins: Nice looking pour- cloudy yellow golden with a dense white head. Decent aroma as well- spicy and phenolic with notes of white pepper, lavender and coriander. Soapy mouthfeel. Lots of vegetal character in the fore flavor with lots of soapy flavors (tastes like some fatty acids were broken down here). Quite astringent in the flavor which is disappointing after the mediocre aroma. Uh.

Bottle; poured a cloudy goldish color with a lot of floaties. Aroma of coriander, orange, yeast, and wheat. Smells just like blue moon, and I haven’t had it in a while, but it tastes really darn similar. Tasty though; it is better than expected. Easy to drink. Could drink alot of this.

Sampled on 11/20/2009. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a hazy golden orange color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention. The aroma is fruity and sweet, some orange and spices and coriander. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The main flavors are orange, peaches and coriander. Not as estery as most Belgian Ales, seems to be missing that bright Belgian yeast character, but still a very nice beer. Fruity and light, smooth and fruity. Very easy to drink. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

750 ml bottle from a local grocery store - Pours a hazy light golden color with a one finger thick white head. Very light lacing. Aroma is spice, esters, light citrus, and toasted malt. There is a little more citrus in the flavor. Medium body. This is a decent beer. Just pretend it’s not made by Coors.

Large bottle shared by goldtwins. I actually didnt think this was so bad, especially having so many of the new blue moon beers that were some of the most foul tasting things ever. Pours a mostly clear, slight haze golden with a fizzy white head- fades quite a bit- leaves slight lace. Aroma is spicy, citrus, phenolic yeast, coriander, orange peel, spicy black pepper, and alligator pepper- lemon hint light bready malt, and crackery. Flavor is crisp and somewhat clean, toast, lemon zest, orange oil citrus, phenolic, spicy, peppery, and fruity- with some doughy malts. Has a strange sharpness to it, and overall a weak palate and mouthfeel, but not bad.

beerbill (2938) - Laurel, New York, USA - NOV 16, 2009
Bottle shared by goldtwins at Paul’s homebrewing session. Pours a hazy light orange gold with a moderate white head. There is some very noticeable coriander in the aroma along with some more subtle orange and some alcohol vapors. The flavor is heavily spiced with coriander along with some orange and lemon, alcohol, and sour wheat. This is really more of a wit, and is marginal at best.

750 bottle- Pours hazy orange with minimal head, aroma is similar to the Belgian white, only with a subtle spice smell. The flavor is a different story, it’s very spicy, almost overdone. An Imperial Belgian white is an interesting concept, but I’m not sure if it totally worked, not in this case anyway.

Bottle shared by goldtwins. Very pale, hazy with lasting white head. Strong coriander aroma with gum orange and glue. Very grainy spicy coriander mild wheat tang and gritty spicy finish. Alcohol is well hidden beneath an excess of spice. Imperial white is a bad style to begin with, and this is especially bad.
