An amped-up (in taste--lots of great orange and clover flavor--and in alcohol) Blue Moon; discounted and therefore quite worthwhile ;)

2009 edition bottle bought in Evanston Wyoming. Pours a clear golden color with a medium white head and some particulates, not filtered for sure. A sweet nose of yeast and dry fruit. The flavor is a decent wit; oranges, dry yeast and sweet malts, not warm, actually easy to drink. The palate is a bit low for the style. Decent.

Tasted 5/31/11. 750ml capped bottle. The first pour is hazy and lively with a golden straw colored hue. Trace ring of head. Aromas of honey and wheat. Oranges and other citrus fruit. A slight flare in the nostrils from the alcohol. Medium to full bodied with a bright effervescence and citrus bitterness. Bready and lightly toasted wheat malt bill. Mildly chalky body with a sticky finish. There’s just a ton of fruity flavors in this one: oranges, lemons and grapefruit. This actually has a decent palate to it. It hits the bitter and tangy. Tart and mildly sour. Decent viscosity and mouthfeel. Mild for what it is and the alcohol is somewhat unblended, but decent.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a big white head and lots of floaties. Aroma is a nice corriander with some spice and yeast. Flavor is more orange peel with some spice and vanilla. Decent and flavorful with no alcohol found. Found in the bargan bin but its still holding up.

Blue Moon Grand Cru, whoda thunk?
Pours a cloudy lemon straw color with a tightly bubbled bright white head that sticks around forever. I was hoping to find more in the nose, but I was sadly disappointed. Aromas of citrus, mostly lemons, pepper, spicy wheat malt, and a spice that I assume is coriander. Taste is a lemon and orange kind of feel with some spicy yeast, wheat, alcohol and some pepper. Creamy smooth mouthfeel is the greatest asset to this brew. Vibrantly carbonated, slick mouthfeel. Not bad, but definitely lackluster. I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore of these especially with the $10.75 price tag.

Poured into a tulip glass. Color is cloudy orange with a white head that quickly fades. Aroma is light fruit and alcohol, similar to wine. Flavor is a nice mild orange with bready malt notes. Palate is medium bodied with crisp citrus flavors and light bitterness. Overall this was much better than I expected! The flavors are much more mild and smooth than the aroma. Also, I didn’t notice any real alcohol in the flavor as others mentioned. Probably wouldn’t be worth the $12 or so this was going for at first, but I picked it up for just under $4 at Costco.

Have seen this around for about a year, but at the starting price of $12 then getting reduced and reduced , i wasn’t going to budge- but i’ll take a free sample .. . wonderful light aroma, perfume and flowers and a touch of yeast and orange .. . refreshing at the start when cold, but as it warms it looses its charm .. . muddled finish .. . i sit in the corner and look at the paintings.. brilliant!!
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 thetmaxx (497) - West Sacramento, California, USA - MAY 8, 2011
Poured into a 12oz shaker glass. Very cloudy golden colour, with lots of sediment floating in it. Aroma is very unique, not like a normal blue moon. Orange, and banana are strongly coming through along with some coriander spice. Flavour is very strong of alcohol, also finishes dry, probably due to theabv. Otherwise the flavour is bland. Mouth feel is full bodied with a dry finish. Overall a decent brew, but Coors should stop trying and leave the craft brew to the pros.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Oscbert (769) - Sacramento, California, USA - MAY 1, 2011
~Orangey citrusy corriander aroma with biscuity malt. Sweet and candi syrupy like.
~Pours a cloudy hazy orange color with small white head.
~Very sweet flavor. Orange citrus coriander and candy syrup like sweetness.
~Med full bodied, med C02. Sweet syrupy finish.
~I could see why Blue Moon people may like this thinking that they are drinking a strong bad ass beer. This beer is why too sweet. Almost sickening sweet. Luckily I bought this at Costco for $4 and didnt spend the 8-10 they are asking other places. What a waste.
