COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Belgium, a Grand Cru is traditionally brewed for special celebrations. This holiday season, there’s definitely something to celebrate: a blue moon on New Year’s Eve. To honor this rare event, we’ve brewed a limited-edition Blue Moon Grand Cru in the US. This small-batch, Artfully Crafted brew incorporates subtle hints of orange peel and coriander and delivers a warm, spicy finish. Garnish with an orange slice and celebrate.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange body with a white head and thin lacing. Soapy body lemon grass, orange peel, and light spiciness. Rather bland lame malt bill, sweet wheat y medium body and light warming. Eh.

BückDich (5468) - McCall, Idaho, USA - DEC 10, 2009
Bottle: Pours a cloudy orange color with a light white head. The nose is snappy with light orange and yeast, some spicy coriander and rougher yeast notes. A bit beefier than blue moon, but I’m not seeing the effort. Almost a bit more yeasty and malty, but not better. Stronger maybe.

Cornfield (5277) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - DEC 31, 2009
Bottle from Kenwood Liquors in Homer Glen, IL: This poured a hazy straw body with rapid bubbling and a tall sustained head. The aroma was oranges with a light spiciness. Way over-carbonated and gassy. There’s a light bready malt taste at the base, but it’s almost hidden by the strong carbonation, the orange flavor, and the alcohol kick near the end. It tastes like a screwdriver made with soda rather than orange juice.

Ernest (5183) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 7, 2009
Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (basement), with notes of soap, cotton candy, coriander, lemon. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Kinda soapy and artificial. Overly sweet and syrupy. Not very pleasant.

Large bottle shared by goldtwins. I actually didnt think this was so bad, especially having so many of the new blue moon beers that were some of the most foul tasting things ever. Pours a mostly clear, slight haze golden with a fizzy white head- fades quite a bit- leaves slight lace. Aroma is spicy, citrus, phenolic yeast, coriander, orange peel, spicy black pepper, and alligator pepper- lemon hint light bready malt, and crackery. Flavor is crisp and somewhat clean, toast, lemon zest, orange oil citrus, phenolic, spicy, peppery, and fruity- with some doughy malts. Has a strange sharpness to it, and overall a weak palate and mouthfeel, but not bad.

Bottle. Sweet orange/lemon and wheat malt aroma. Cloudy orange-yellow color with small head. Sweet orange/lemon and wheat malt flavor with light orange peel finish. Nice but not worth the price.

Bottle: Hazy light coppery hue with a frothy head and spotty lace, some small floaties, The aroma has notes of citric rinds, banana, wheat, biscuity malt, coriander, light candi sugar. The taste is sweet malts, twangy citrus, and moderate spice notes upon the finish. A tad boozy and soapy but not distracting. The mouth feel is lively but not not aggressive, medium to light bodied and a bit dry. Overall, I found myself perplexed with this Imperial version for there is too much alcohol and sweetness for something I associate with refreshment.

Sampled on 11/20/2009. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a hazy golden orange color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention. The aroma is fruity and sweet, some orange and spices and coriander. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The main flavors are orange, peaches and coriander. Not as estery as most Belgian Ales, seems to be missing that bright Belgian yeast character, but still a very nice beer. Fruity and light, smooth and fruity. Very easy to drink. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Skyview (4880) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - DEC 26, 2009
Picked up a 750 ml bottle from Zipps Liquors in Minneapolis, MN. Pours a hazy light straw colored brew with a thick white head that has some nice retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of golden grain malt, lots of coriander and orange zest, yeast and a hint of lemon. Taste is full bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of Belgian multi-grain malt, heavy on the orange zest, coriander, yeast, a hint of banana and lemon. Finish continues the orange zest aftertaste, a touch sweet with a velvet texture. Quite excellent.
