COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We crafted our single-style abbey ale with select roasted malts, a hint of Belgian sugar, and a touch of wheat for a rich, caramel flavor and a wonderfully smooth toffee finish. Itís perfect for those chilly winter days.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours clear copper with an off-white head that left quickly. Aroma is sort of light treacle. Med body more or less. Flavor is very sweet. Treacle moving to caramel moving to toffee. I used to think those were all about the same, but this brew illustrates my error. Itís really too sugary (I canít use malty). Meh.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Supermarket Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a reddish orange appearance with a light brown head. Caramel, banana, nutty aroma. Kind of chewy, toasted caramel malty, light candy sugar, slightly fruity, nutty flavor. Bleh.

shrubber85 (7594) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - DEC 22, 2013
Bottle. Nutty brown sugar malt and light spicy/herbal aroma. Chestnut brown with moderate head. Sweet caramel malt and mildly bitter herbal hops flavor. Not bad but no Belgian characteristics - more just a straight forward brown ale.

DruncanVeasey (7189) - NUNEATON, Top 18, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAR 3, 2014
Bottle, room 212, 19/02/14. White lidded mahogany. Malt loaf with strawberry jam nose. Malt loaf studded with black cherry; light nuttiness and rusk in the afters. Sweet and inoffensive in a dobbelbock diluted with cheap tinned brown bitter kind of way.

5000 (6300) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - DEC 31, 2013
Bottle: † Amber, a little dark, thin frothy tannish head, little lacing. † Somewhat of a dark bready nose, slightly musty. † Perhaps a touch of dark pitted fruit. † Same on the tongue, malty, bready in a darker sense, with a very soft dark pited fruit like background. † Pretty light, and not as barnish or musty as most other Belgians, nor as bright. † Body and mouthfeel are moderate. † Had I had this blind, I would have never said Belgian. † I would have said a Pale Bock or something....

Bottle. Holy crap, could the brewer give less of a rats ass about making this an abbey-style ale? Mild raisin and nut in this, and it isnít offensive, but itís completely half-assed. Whatever.

Braudog (5739) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - DEC 15, 2013
Bottle. Shiny red-brown with a thin but firm head. This beer comes with a very odd but distinct beef broth character -- sweet and malty to be sure, but what lingers in the background borders on a meaty stew. Interesting. (#5369, 12/15/2013)

PorterPounder (5537) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 14, 2013
Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, slightly hazy, decently thick eggshell white head. Aroma has some spiced pear accents, a touch of toffee. Flavor is mellow and warming with some nuttiness, a bit of toasted bread, a touch of brown sugar and toffee. Mouthfeel is smooth. Decent winter warmer.

b3shine (5421) - Indiana, USA - FEB 18, 2014
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent golden orange with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast with a sweet backbone and notes of caramel. Tastes like it smells with what seems to be a bit of vegetal flavor. Average (at best) on the palate. Eh.

Coppery bronze, nice fluffy white head. Sweet, bubblegum aroma. Taste is some caramel and tobacco, plus some other mushy sweet flavors.
