Commercial Description:
As hearty a brew as you'll find anywhere, Blue Moon's Nut Brown Ale is styled after the brown ales that are so famous in England. This ale's hearty character is derived from a blend of Munich and chocolate malts. Together, they give Blue Moon Nut Brown Ale a rich, creamy flavor that finishes with a nutty flourish.

Bottle (2000?)... Found this baby in an old box of golf balls along with a Sam Adams Longshot Hazelnut Brown (1997?) (my favorite beer before before many of my favorites of today were even a gleam in their respective brew masters’ eyes). I used to really like this beer as well, let’s see how it held up... Clear, dark mahogany ale with a small, fizzy, off-white head. Restrained aroma of caramel and toffee with a hint of earthiness and a whisper of milk chocolate. Flavor wise, no real oxidation. Not much else either. Well-balanced, although it leans a touch on the sweet side and is pretty thin. Unoffensive. Light to medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, crisp, clean finish... too crisp and clean for the style. In this bottle’s case, thank God for pasteurization. Oh well, not as much going on as I remember. Can’t wait to drink the Sam Adams Hazelnut Brown... loved it twelve years ago and probably still will, but I’m certain it’s not in the database. They only brewed it for one year and that was well before RateBeer!

Bottle. A very tasty brew indeed! Smooth and very rich. Roasted malt and caramel. Pure joy. Sad that it is no longer brewed.

I haven’t had this in about 11 years, but I remember it being somewhat flavorful. It might have gotten a higher rating from me, but I am not a big fan of the style.

The name tells you everything you need to know about this brew: an uninteresting brown brew with a faint nose of cocoa, earth, and malt. The flavors are ok, slightly common of the style without much character - a little roasted chocolate and malt, a bit smooth, but overall unimpressive. I will gladly pay extra for Samuel Smith’s nutbrown.
