COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pale Moon is a drinkable pale ale that has a distinctive hop aroma without the lingering aftertaste. This Belgian-Style Pale Ale is brewed with European malts, Cascade hops, and a touch of hibiscus and orange peel. These ingredients create a rich copper colored ale with a flavor complexity that one would expect from the Blue Moon Brewing Company.

Bottle at GABF. Pours a hazy amber with a poofy head. Nose is light citrus and bread, odd fruitiness and moderatly hoppy. Some bready notes. On tasting, clean and crisp, minimal flavor, soft bitterness. Not much going on. Eh.

12oz bottle - pours caramel with quickly diminishing white head. Nose is caramel with floral hops. Flavor adds nothing. A little sweet and equally bitter. Aftertaste is artificial candy (toffee flavor). not impressed. I came, I saw, I shall never return.

Bottle. Pours a dark copper-orange with a light head. The nose does have hops, but there’s a mass-produced grainy funk under it -- no phenols I can detect. Richer than I expected on the tongue -- it has some savory, brothy edges, and a substantial malt impact. Still -- not a lot of hops, though. If you’d handed me this without telling me what it was, I would have guessed red ale or highly-hopped Vienna. Finish is long and pleasantly bitter. It isn’t what it says it is, but it’s not a bad beer.

Got this in a summer sampler. Pours a clear with a moderate amber color and medium head. This is extremely light on the palate, this makes for an easy drink. I’m not detecting too much on the aroma. This has a slight sweetness I expect from a Belgian style and some slight caramel notes.

Bottle. Amber bodied with a short, fizzy tan head. Aroma is malty with caramel, soft hops, grains, bread and grassy notes. Taste is sweet malt, grains, caramel, bread dough, grassy hops and soft fruit. Body is light-medium with a moderate, fizzy carbonation. Ends with more caramel, grassy hops, sweet malt, grains, dark fruit and bread.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a slightly hazy reddish-amber color with a medium sized fizzy off-white head that fades quickly. Aroma of floral notes, earthy notes, citrus, toasted malts. The taste is caramel, earthy notes, citrus, floral notes, bitter hops. Thin bodied. Decent beer.

From the bottle. Meh, it’s about the same as regular Blue Moon. I suppose I’ll give them some minute credit for creating something a bit better than I expected. A bit over-carbonated, but I guess that’s to be expected from a huge macro brew.

Poured a copper color with a robust off-white head and average lacing. Nose of citrus. Medium in body minus but a little thin in the mouth. Flavor of caramel malts and citrus. Light spice finish. A bit on the thin side for a Belgian but quite drinkable BUT in no way shape or form bad. I wonder how many reviewers hammer this one because it is from Coors. They do indeed make some pretty abominable beers but this one is fine. .

Blue Moon Pale Ale has a pretty thick, off-white head and a clear, amber appearance with lots of streaming bubbles, but not a lot of lacing. The aroma is sweet and similar to brown bread. Taste is likewise sweet, malty, brown bread, caramel, and a very light hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is mostly watery, and Blue Moon Pale Moon finishes fairly dry and quite drinkable. Overall, this is a very good beer, and I recommend it. RJT

I think this is the best blue moon that is out there. Nice heavy body with a good bit of bite to it and a nice amount of alcohol that makes the orange peel slightly understated.
