In the 1940’s, Belgian-Style Pale Ales grew in popularity and were ordered by the round due to their balanced taste. Rounder, our expression of this sessionable style, is crafted with hibiscus and orange peel for a hint of spiciness and touch of wheat for a smoother, rounder taste.

Malts: Pale, Imported Caramel, Imported Light Caramel, White Wheat
Hops: Cascade
Our Twist: Orange Peel, Hibiscus

Copper colored with a small, short lived head. Aroma is dominated by wheat and malts. Somewhat lighter taste and mouthfeel than I expected but quite refreshing. Offers a good balance between the cascade hops and caramel malts. A little less carbonation would make this one much more appealing.

Bottle:   Amber, a touch dark, moderate to large frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Mealy nose, a touch of wet cardboard, slight breadiness and honeycomb cereal.   Sweet breadiness and homeycomb cereal up front.   Not too strong, thankfully or else it might get a little sticky.   Doesn’t have any of that barnish or musty notes I associate with the style.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Salty and slightly sweet whole wheat bready finish.   Not getting really any spiciness on this one.   Stick to the Wit, this one ain’t worth it unless you want the label (like me).

I'm giving this one a solid 3.5. Very enjoyable beer with some rich flavors, but still light enough that you can have a few and don't feel the need to resuscitate your taste buds. --- Beer in my belly makes me hoppy.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2013 Delicious aroma if you give it a chance, maybe citrus. Medium golden color, clear, little head. Not too hoppy, but not much flavor to speak of. Some orange.

A deep amber color with a mild smell of citrus. The beer is in takes some of the best things from the classic Blue Moon and Belgian style pale ales and combines them quite successfully. It has a milder taste of hops and it not as dry as most BSPA and it has a slight taste of citrus which is a clear connection to the original Blue Moon. It doesn’t do either BSPA or full on Blue Moon alone very well but as a hybrid it works creating a satisfying taste which is smooth with little bite. I would not serve this with an orange peel like the usual Blue Moon.

12oz bottle 9/13/13 (Binny’s Downers Grove Mix A Six)-46° in Trappist Glass-Pours a medium amber with a small off white head. Aroma of yeast, orange, and hops. Taste of the same with some soapy and caramel aspects coming thru. This medium bodied brew is not bad but maybe I was expecting more.

Malt-forward pale ale. Not sure where the Belgian idea comes through with this one. Pours pale blonde with minimal head and lacing. Some light hops, florals and lots of decent malt. Light palate overall. Average carbonation. Bottle.

Amber-colored beer with a foamy white head. I didn’t pick up any noticeable aroma and there wasn’t a very distinct taste either. Not a terrible beer, but it doesn’t do much to stand out.

Bottle drank on the Metro North railway on my journey into Manhattan. Pours perfectly clear copper with a fine, white foam head. Bready malt nose with generic ripening fruits. Light to medium sweet flavor with a character defined mostly by bready malts, hints of toasty dough, soft caramel notes, slight bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with more basic, bready malts, faint leafy hops, some lightly dried caramel, doughy brown bread. Simple beer but fine overall.
