2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
I’ll keep this short. This is mainly because this beer is fair, at best. Light pour with little head that dissipates quickly, clear light amber color, floral and nutty notes on the nose, dry belgian-ISH flavor with some nuts, a little orange peel on the palate. I wouldn’t turn this beer down at a table, but it definitely isn’t my favorite and IMHO, doesn’t qualify for the class that I deem one of my favorites.

Awful beer, totally undrinkable... Tastes like overripe fruit and rotten bananas... Off on finish... Bad

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel, malt syrup), lightly to moderately hoppy (stale apricot), with a note of shoe rubber.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation.
Belgian? How’s that now? I don’t get any Belgian character out of this at all. It’s like a poorly made, extract homebrew-ish, overly sweet English strong ale, stale hops and all. Dumb and aimless.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle from the summer variety pack. Aroma is bready malts, toast, dark fruits, caramel. Pours clear copper with a medium off-white head with decent retention; leaves a little lace. Taste is sweet, toasty and wheaty, turning a little tart mid-palate; a little dry in the finish. Has a metal/blood off-note. Body is a little thin, carbonation high. No Belgian character that I can tell. Not bad, not good, just middle of the road.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Eh, it’s a bit of a stretch to call this a Belgian ale. Doesn’t taste like any Belgian I’ve had before. Clear amber with a white head. Aromas of malt and some hoppy notes, some toast aromas in there as well. Dry on the palate, way drier than I’d like out of a Belgian ale. Comes across as harsh rather than smooth. Just not really feelin this one.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear reddish amber, almost mahogany, with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled light tan head. Malty aroma has caramel and horehound undertones. Crisp, malty flavor is rounded out by caramel, fruity and horehound notes. Rather tasty. Smooth texture has a fine, subtle fizz.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
DATE TASTED: August 4, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Kisatsky’s Tavern pint... OCCASION: convincing wife Shan that "Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives" is a mockumentary, not a documentary ... APPEARANCE: nice, lively orange-amber body; creamy white head that settles slowly and laces surprisingly well!... AROMA: caramel malts "round" the fragrant flower pot hops with some doughier, breadier elements--the citrus is subdued by an oddly malty punch... PALATE: medium-bodied, oily, antagonistic in its presence--mildly sessionable, if not for its Blue Moon calling card funked up aftertaste...TASTE: mild coriander sits amid malts that belie this beer’s objective; mostly caramel and a 40 oz. malt profile that kills the enjoyability for the drinker.... OVERALL: another "miss" from the Blue Moon Expressionist Collection, though not to the extreme of the Blackberry Wit or the Agave--still, like finding out Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives" is not real, one feels this Belgian pale really is a distant attempt of the original...
