2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
I thought this beer was a little strange. It doesnít have a very robust flavor but a weird mix of spices come through.

Bottle - big foamy head, clear medium amber color, sweet malty aroma and flavor, with mild peppery spice, mild floral notes, mild hops - not bad but nothing special

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This is a nice ale, with an easy taste. An underhopped beer, it has a pleasant malt taste. It is slightly tart but the overall impression is a simple and easy thirst quencher.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
An orange reddish color with a white head. The aroma contains some some dark fruits and cherries with a big floral note. It has that belgian yeasty smell to it if that makes sense. The flavor is rather dry with some cherries and citrus. There is a spice note to it also. The finish contains a hint of tartness but nothing like most Flanders Reds. Overall this really isnt that bad and I bet without the Blue Moon label it would get higher scores.

Somewhat sweet and cloying beer with strawberry notes. Clear reddish with minimal head, aroma is sweet , taste is berries and sweet malt. Abrupt finish, very dry.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Some bodega in Bushwick: Pours reddish with a small head. Aroma and taste are both unpleasant. The combination of spices make for an unbalanced mess of a beer. There was a hint of tartness, but it was gross and chemically. I finished this beer as fast as I could to get it over with.

1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Beer is a lot weaker than I expected it to be especially based on its color. Easy on the palate. Faint taste of strawberries.

12oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with medium-sized tan head. Aroma is grainy with some wheat. Malty flavor with a somewhat sweet finish. Light to medium bodied. Easy to drink, decent flavor.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I poured a 12oz bottle into a mason jar. It had a best before date of 5/19/14 and came as part of a mixed pack for $14.47 ($1.20 per bottle or $0.10 per ounce).
Appearance: Pretty dark copper/burgundy hue with visible carbonation. Pours to a large, off-white, foamy head which dissipates and leaves no lacing.
Smell: Generic scent of amber malts, though muted. Nothing off-putting.
Taste: Looking at the ingredients list to Blue Moon Short Straw Farmhouse Red Ale itís quite impressive. Thereís plenty of malt varieties, Noble hops and even some additional spices thrown in. Yet, it still manages to have a mild palette and does not appear to be anything close to a saison or Flanders Red as mentioned on the label. Most of the craft macro brews are essentially just amber ales with a few extra ingredients thrown in, and thatís essentially what this beer is.
Up front thereís a general amber malt sweetness. There does seem to be a hint of chocolate and maybe some nuttiness, though itís all subtle. On the finish thereís a touch of dry peppery spice, though it is definitely not tart like a Flanders Red. Perhaps the spicy character could be that of a saison if it were amplified more. All criticism aside, this is not a particularly bad beer. In fact, I any craft brewer worth their salt should be able to take this recipe and turn it into something great. This would be a fine introductory craft beer for newbies.
Drinkability: Simply being easy to drink isnít what makes for a good palette. Blue Moon Short Straw Farmhouse Red Ale is a good example of what I mean. The mouthfeel is thin and on the flatter side, with a clean finish but isnít necessarily refreshing. It doesnít seem to have the weight and body of a 5.8% ABV brew, so why not make it even lighter?

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Lager glass. Clear reddish color, OK lacing. Nose of wheat and a touch of strawberry. Not a well balanced beer, the artificial strawberry taste ruins it.

Interesting earthy flavors that made this beer quite distinct. At first the flavor was not that unpleasant, but Iím not sure if the mix works out quite right.
