Bottle. Pours clear, light orange. Smells and tastes very mild, hard to place it. A little too carbonated. Canít find much to like, but neither do I dislike it. Probably wonít buy it again, but wouldnít mind of one were offered to me.

Aroma is wheaty with a hint of citrus, not strong. Pours a nice clear amber with a decent white head. Flavor is rather wan, wheaty with a snip of orange, but nothing special. Texture is a bit on the thin side, only average fizz at best. Gimme a REAL craft beer, bitte, síil vous plait, por favor. Iíll finish this one only to take the edge off a headache.

I poured a 12oz bottle into a mug. It had a best before date of 5/26/14 and came as part of a mix pack for $14.47 ($1.20 per bottle or $0.10 per ounce).

Appearance: Copper/orange hue over a slightly hazy body. Not much visible carbonation. Pours to a large, beige, foamy head which laces and retains fairly well.

Smell: Standard amber ale aroma of slight dark malt and a hint of orange.

Taste: My beef with the Blue Moon lineup (and other "crafty" beers for that matter) is that they never deliver on their labelís hyperbole. Iíve found most Blue Moon beers, with the except of the flagship offering, tend to just be amber ales with slight variations. But in the case of Valencia Grove Amber it actually does do what itís supposed to do: be a slightly sweet, fairly complex and highly drinkable amber ale. Itís nothing amazing, but itís definitely better than most of the genre.

I was surprised to taste true malt character here. Thereís a strong amount of sweetness and confectionery flavor often found in an amber. Caramel, toffee, toasted malt and a slight nuttiness can all be found here. Theyíre all far from intense or cloying, of course, but the fact it tastes so genuine considering the brewery is surprising. The orange does come through on the finish, but it tastes more like orange juice concentrate or some kind of flavoring rather than true orangepeel. Thereís nothing spicy about it all. Iím sure this couldíve been much worse, so itís appreciable for it is.

Drinkability: Another thing thatís nice about Valencia Grove Amber is the fact it drinks like it should. The other Blue Moon brews tend to be too crisp, too thin or just too challenging to drink. This has a medium to full body with a soft, comfortable mouthfeel. Itís not crisp, but it wouldnít consider it tepid. It goes down smoothly and finishes fairly clean with just a bit of a cough syrup-like aftertaste and sensation. It doesnít quite live up to its 5.9% ABV weight, though. Iím sure they could do the same palette on a much leaner weight.

Clear golden amber pour with no real head. Old toasted caramel and biscuit notes. Cardboard. Hint of orange peel, but not citrusy. Boring and blah.

It poured an amber color with a white head. The aroma was of vanilla and caramel. The taste was creamy, vanilla and citrus. Decent.

Copper, clear, off-white head. Aroma of neutral, grainy malt, wheat, hint of caramel, light yeast character, some green apple. Flavor: wheat, yeasty notes, orange peel barely detectable, finishes slightly dry/grainy.

Crystal clear light copper pour with a big white head. Aroma is wheat and citrus. Orange flavor with a very bready, malty middle. Finish is malty, strange citrusy aftertaste, lingering wheat/yeast. Seems a little bleh, kind of like a blue moon with some orange flavor.

"Pours burnt amber with a thin ringed head and minimal lacing. Aroma has a hint of orange that accents an otherwise indefinable musk. The initial sip is a tame caramel malt flavor. The whole thing falls apart on the back end though, where the palate is flooded with the taste of stale wheat. The body is also a little watered down."
