COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This copper-colored ale is crafted with roasted malts, Belgian sugar, and a touch of wheat for a rich caramel flavor and a smooth toffee finish.

Pours dark amber with a fizzy head the mostly disappears. Malt aroma is hardly detectable. Nice malty taste with the initial sip. Slightly sweet finish. Not bad for a mega brewery.

Bottled. Poured light-medium reddish-brown with a short, tight-bubbled beige head. The aroma picked up toasted caramel, molasses, and candi sugar with accents of fruity yeast and dank wheat. The flavor found tart fruity notes on the tip of the tongue, with sweet caramel, candi sugar, and wheat following.. spicy, tangy finish with too much tacky residual sweetness. Lighter-bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. smooth middle, but tangy and rough at odd times.. drinkable, but not very good.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours clear ruby colored with 1-finger tan head. Nose is caramel malt, mild butyrides, brown sugar. Tastes pedestrian, very Wheaties-like with not much else. Meh.

Bottle@Hare and Billet, Blackheath, SE London - Dark brown/amber in colour with a medium beige head. Caramel malt and ripe/dried fruits, sweet sugar and toffee most prominent here overall. Not bad and pretty warming seasonal.

A very blah beer. Not crazy about the aftertaste. Looks good. I suppose a so-so attempt to make a Belgian style beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I like this beer. Nice spiciness, perfect color, with plenty of kick. A nice winter warmer.

I love this dark beer. No bitter taste just subtle Carmel and a wonderful ale and amazingly smooth!

VALIS (228) - Nashua, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 28, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2013 Mostly soap on the nose, faint spices. Burnt amber color is promising, but like a lot of mass produced beers, the taste aims for inoffensiveness rather than complexity. Vaguely spicy finish. Why make it so smooth and watery? The Coors crowd isn’t going to be buying this, so who do you think is picking a beer called "Winter Abbey Ale" off the shelves? Craft beer fans. Needs to be much bolder.

Bottle on the beach. Malty smell. Nice body. Smooth taste. Winter spices. Low carbonation.
