Appearance: medium amber brown with nice chestnut highlights; the head is tan, creamy, short, and quickly fading. Aroma: good nose of molasses, brown sugar, toffee, and lightly toasted nuts, with just a hint of cinnamon. Taste: caramel, light vanilla, light brown sugar, a bit nutty. Finish: watery finish, with a kind of syrup flavor but without the commensurate body. Notes: Flavors could have used substantially more balance through a better application of more traditional belgian yeast, rather than just (seemingly) relying on a dose of candi sugar. Palate was watery.

Transfer from BA review on 10-29-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a deeper amber color bordering on mahogany with a big fizzy white head. The head of the brew fades fast at first, but then greatly slows in recession as time moves on. Once the head has eventually faded away a light film is left on top the brew with almost no lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is sweet with tons of caramel and molasses with some bready aromas mixed within. A little bit of spice smells are there as well producing a malty very lightly roasted and sweet smell overall. Taste – The taste is very much as the nose would have suggested. It begins with a lightly toasted and bready flavor mixed with lots of caramel and some molasses. As the flavor advances spices of cinnamon and some allspice come to the tongue with some lighter fruit flavors. In the end, the mix of flavors, leaves a sweet and malty and lightly spiced flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. Both are rather nice for the sweet flavors of the brew and make for a very easy drinker. Overall –An easy drinking sweeter darker Belgian. Nothing exceptional, but for the price it was a good go to.

"toffee, malt and spice is about it. none of the robust dark fruit aspects i like in the style. this one started about average, but i lost interest in finishing before the end."

It has a creamy tan head which quickly faded down to a small ring of slick lacing that hangs on till the last sip. The body has a slightly hazy appearance with a dark amber color. The aroma is rather light and simple. Only a light hint of sweet malt with maybe a touch of caramel is detected in the nose. The flavor is ok but very simple for the style. It has a dark sweetness with notes of caramel candy, brown sugar and some very, very light spice like cinnamon. There were no noticeable hops at all and it finished sweet but watery. The overall texture was light for the style and thinner in the finish with a medium body and light carbonation.

Rated on 11-16-2011. This bottled beer pours a medium sized very fizzy head that mostly diminishes, orange transparent body, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, roasty and some wheat. The flavor is lightly sweet, caramel malt, wheat, and this beer finishes dry. The mouthfeel is smooth and this is a light-medium bodied beer. Overall, there is not much to this beer as it lacks a lot of flavor and aroma.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a brown colored body with a one finger off white head, moderate foamy white lacing. The smell had a lot of malts and sugar, really super light fruit very subdued in the background. The taste was overly sweet suggary maltiness, no balance. On the palate, it sat about a medium, fairly sessionable, sugary dry finish, bland sugary aftertaste. Overall, this is definitely a beer to have with dessert or for dessert, good for a malt drinker who wants a beer, but I probably won’t come back to this.

A shameless maltfest with unusual sweetness and somewhat flat. A nice change of pace, but not my favorite.

This is a memorable beer for me. Not because I enjoyed it. Far from it. Rather, this was the beer that I drank before feeling the effects of a nasty bout of (presumably) Arby’s-induced food poisoning. I don’t blame this beer for making me vomit. However, I found myself thinking while I retched. I was grateful that at least I wasn’t wasting a good beer. No, this beer isn’t offensive, but it has thin flavor and a flat body. It sure as hell isn’t an "Abbey Ale."
