3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Foxbush (761) - Richmond, USA - NOV 26, 2011
UPDATED: JAN 26, 2012 This was tasted at the brewery on Saturday after Thanksgiving. The dark ale had a 1/4 inch tan head. The color was an opaque black . The higher hops is noticed immediately. The roasted malt and bitterness of the additional hops make for flavorful beer. The Blue Mountain brewery has added onto thier retuarant offering a larger area for dinning. The place was packed prior to a UVA-VT game in Charlottesville.. There were many people tasting their six samples. a friend purchased a growler of the Black IPA for a ski weekend in Snowshoe, WV. the growler held up very well and we polished off in one night. The carbonation was lively and worked well with chili.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of grassy, garlicky hops, pot, hop oils, some citrus, and a hint of roast. Flavor brings out a little more of the roasted malt, but this is a hop forward beer. Lots of hop resins and chewy hops. Great stuff!

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Drake (5231) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - NOV 9, 2011
From a growler filled about an hour ago. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of huge earthy and pine hops, roasted malts, smoke in a combination that sadly is mildly reminiscent of tar. The taste is roasted malts, citrus, earthy and pine hops. A bit of sweetness. Better than the aroma thankfully. Medium bodied. Average carbonation. Slight lingering bitterness.
