Fears of infection in this one were unfounded, fortunately. Pours a dark to medium brown, nice creamy lasting head. Aroma is bread, sort of like an unspiced dark rye. Flavor is a match, medium bodied, bread, with a hint of fig running underneath. Yeast notes Belgian, but not at all overwhelming. Perhaps not special, but enjoyable.

(750ml bottle) Brown and ruby body with a bid beige head. Light lace on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, candy sugar, raisin, apple, dark fruit. Light body, thin. Sweet and peppery with some good hoppiness to it.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a large, beige head. Yeast and dark fruit aromas. Strange grain/straw flavor with some yeasty and dried fruit notes. More dried fruit and a hint of chocolate in the finish. Fairly bland and a little off to me.

750 mL bottle from Whole Foods Market. Pours a hazy dark red-orange color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of spice, cherries and stone fruits. The taste is herbal and nutty notes, plums, raisins and a spicy finish. Medium bodied with the faintest bit of heat. Decent.

CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 24, 2012
750ml bottle: pours a clear deep mahogany with a stringy lacing froth of off-white head. Has a lightly sweet toasty dark caramel malty nose with a touch of clove and doughy yeast. Starts with pretty good fullness and mild sweetness with a touch of cocoa and licorice before a drier, more bitter peppery finish. Could use some more sweetness to hide the alcohol a little better.

Brown sugar, raisin, date nose. Clear brown, thick tan head. Chocolate, raisin, and malt flavor. Alcohol evident. Rather boring.
