2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown with a large, beige head. Yeast and dark fruit aromas. Strange grain/straw flavor with some yeasty and dried fruit notes. More dried fruit and a hint of chocolate in the finish. Fairly bland and a little off to me.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 mL bottle from Whole Foods Market. Pours a hazy dark red-orange color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of spice, cherries and stone fruits. The taste is herbal and nutty notes, plums, raisins and a spicy finish. Medium bodied with the faintest bit of heat. Decent.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
750ml bottle: pours a clear deep mahogany with a stringy lacing froth of off-white head. Has a lightly sweet toasty dark caramel malty nose with a touch of clove and doughy yeast. Starts with pretty good fullness and mild sweetness with a touch of cocoa and licorice before a drier, more bitter peppery finish. Could use some more sweetness to hide the alcohol a little better.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at The Gate during our bar crawl through Brooklyn. Pours a clear amber with a thin white to beige head. Soft malt, light spices on the nose. Medium bodied, spicy malt and toast. A touch underattenuated perhaps. Overly sweet and malty.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours dark ruby cola with a thick creamy head. Light lacing. Aroma is spicy, dark fruit. Taste is a bit lacking. There’s a light sweetness, but no real character. A nice fruity sweetness does develop later, but really quite disappointing. Definitely good carbonation though, which couldn’t be said for the long winter’s nap sister beer.
