Commercial Description:
Dark Hollow blends the miracle of two crafts--brewing and distillation--to create a work greater than the sum of its parts. An Imperial Stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels still dripping with uncut whiskey. For 100 days the young beer patiently breathes in and out of the wood, gaining complexity, character, and serious attitude. This ale is always bottle conditioned and can be enjoyed immediately upon its release from the brewery...or five years later, when you dust off the last vintage bottle from your cellar to share with good company.

Batch 1 - blank cork - 9.6% ABV

Batch 2 - #2 on cork - 8.9% ABV

Batch 3 - #3 on cork - 10% ABV

Batch 4 - #4 on cork - TBD ABV - coming Halloween 2008

Big thanks to xmarcnolanx for sharing this rare impy stout. Pours very dark with a dark burnt orange head. The aroma is very bourbony with some dark roasted malts in the background ~ comes across to me more as a liquor than beer. Medium / thick smooth creamy bottle with moderate carbonation. The flavor starts off with bourbon and chocolate malt with lots of char. The finish is alcoholic, charry and bitter. This is a good beer, but has far to much bourbon for me to fully appreciate this as an imperial stout.

7/20/08 - Draft sample at brewery. Batch 5. Pours black with chocolate head that’s a film of foam. Nose is all bourbon with mold roast. Nice mouthfeel with lots of chocolate and even more bourbon. Alcohol flavor and heat. Good BA stout, but the stout part is missing a bit. May do well with some age to even out.

Richmond Gathering. Batch #2, C&C 750 shared by dkachur. Black with a brown head. Baking chocolate nose, some dough and oaky vanilla. No bourbon, at least that I could detect. Bold chocolatey flavors, bitter yet refined, dry, powdery chocolate finish. Nice!

Bottle. Pours a black body with a dark tan head. Aroma is peach, sweet malt, citrus and starfruit. Flavor is peach pit, sweet malt , absence of oak or bourbon. Moderate warming and tons of fruit and wood. Very strange beer.

750ml bottle. thanks andrew for sharing!.... close to black pour with a semi-thin light brown head.... aroma was doughy with a further emphasis on fruitychocolate with a large yeast component. very little in the way of bourbon, if any at all.... flavors of sour dough, chocolate, yeast, and a hint of bourbon. mild carbonation with a pretty nice mouthfeel. this one reminded me of Black Ops for some reason and therefore is getting a similar review.
