Commercial Description:
Dark Hollow blends the miracle of two crafts--brewing and distillation--to create a work greater than the sum of its parts. An Imperial Stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels still dripping with uncut whiskey. For 100 days the young beer patiently breathes in and out of the wood, gaining complexity, character, and serious attitude. This ale is always bottle conditioned and can be enjoyed immediately upon its release from the brewery...or five years later, when you dust off the last vintage bottle from your cellar to share with good company.

Batch 1 - blank cork - 9.6% ABV

Batch 2 - #2 on cork - 8.9% ABV

Batch 3 - #3 on cork - 10% ABV

Batch 4 - #4 on cork - TBD ABV - coming Halloween 2008

Bottle courtesy of dkachur. Thanks Dan! Batch #2. Corked and caged. Black bodied with a brown head. Nose is vanilla, wood, cocoa/powdered chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is malty, chocolaty, bourbon, soft wood and vanilla. Very creamy feel. Medium overall. Ends with more bourbon, vanilla, wood, chocolate and roasted malts. I need more of this!

Richmond Gathering. Batch #2, C&C 750 shared by dkachur. Black with a brown head. Baking chocolate nose, some dough and oaky vanilla. No bourbon, at least that I could detect. Bold chocolatey flavors, bitter yet refined, dry, powdery chocolate finish. Nice!

Bottle. Pours a black body with a dark tan head. Aroma is peach, sweet malt, citrus and starfruit. Flavor is peach pit, sweet malt , absence of oak or bourbon. Moderate warming and tons of fruit and wood. Very strange beer.

750ml bottle. thanks andrew for sharing!.... close to black pour with a semi-thin light brown head.... aroma was doughy with a further emphasis on fruitychocolate with a large yeast component. very little in the way of bourbon, if any at all.... flavors of sour dough, chocolate, yeast, and a hint of bourbon. mild carbonation with a pretty nice mouthfeel. this one reminded me of Black Ops for some reason and therefore is getting a similar review.

750ml bottle, Batch #2. thanks to dkachur for this. pours black with creamy tan head. aroma is loaded with vanilla, dry chocolate, dark fruits, and yeasty. flavor is a bit sour dough, soy, nuts, vanilla, dark fruits, yeasty, milk chocolate. silky mouth feel. alcohol is hidden. surprised how yeasty this is and fruity. more belgian in that way than an American IS. pretty good stuff but nothing great.
