COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This liquid is the alpha and the omega; you need nothing else. Our flagship imperial stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels with African cacao nibs and locally roasted coffee. Dark, bitter cocoa blends with sweet malt; robust coffee mellows in the presence of oak-imparted vanilla and bourbon flavors. Enjoy this one at the end of a fine meal with good friends.

Transfer from BA review on 10-23-13- Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with a nice two finger brown colored head of big carbonation bubbles. The head fades relatively quickly, leaving some light lace on the sides of the glass and some foam islands on the surface of the brew. Smell – The aroma is nice and roasty with lots of roasted malt aromas, a nice big chocolate smell, and a good deal of coffee. Along with these smells are some notes of a vanilla nature as well as a lighter caramel. A little bit of smoke and oak are in the nose as well, overall creating a moderately sweet and roasty smell. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter chocolate and roasted malt flavor. Flavors of vanilla and a bit of the caramel detected in the nose were present upfront, complimenting the chocolate very nicely. The flavors present upfront, remain throughout the taste, creating a base for the brew. As the taste moves on however, a nice coffee and lighter toast flavor comes to the tongue. A woody and oaky flavor comes to the tongue at the end, and when combined with a bit of smoke, a very nice oaky and roasty chocolate latte like flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is very thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is average. The thick and creamy body is fantastic for all the roasted and sweeter flavors of the brew letting all those big flavors to sit and linger on the tongue. Overall – This was a very tasty Imperial. The mingling of big flavors in the chocolate, coffee and roast were quite fantastic, and even at 10 % abv there was almost no detectible boozy flavor. Thankfully the thicker body keeps the drinker in check and kept this a very enjoyable slow sipper.

"Intriguing. So apparently there is a regular old barrel aged version of this beer, and then this - with the extra aging on coffee and cocoa nibs. I’d love to have them side by side. This beer was a little on the thin side, but so very smooth, the slight thinness (thinosity) being its only fault. Pretty well balanced and decadent. I’d say the coffee comes out more, and the barrels and chocolate share the rest. Liked it from start to finish. Fairly likely to be bumped up to a 4.4 if/when i get to revisit this. This is the type of barreled stout that would win over those who think most BA beers are too barrel prevelant (and some definitely are, but not this baby)."
