This liquid is the alpha and the omega; you need nothing else. Our flagship imperial stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels with African cacao nibs and locally roasted coffee. Dark, bitter cocoa blends with sweet malt; robust coffee mellows in the presence of oak-imparted vanilla and bourbon flavors. Enjoy this one at the end of a fine meal with good friends.

Rated 3/24/13. Portion of a 750ml bottle into a Hunahpu’s snifter. From notes. A: Pours a dark brown color. The head is a thin white-shaded collar. S: Chocolaty, with a bit of coffee. I also notice slight caramel and roasted qualities. T: At first, faint chocolate gives way to a vegetal, stale coffee profile. After a couple of sips, it balances out fairly well. The finish has a bit of ’saltiness’ that I enjoy somewhat, too. Barrel influences are very subtle here. M: Rather thin, and not really creamy, either. Still, the sweet/bitter balance is nice. O: Ramp up the body, use better coffee; and we could really be talking about something kickass here. As it stands, it’s a pretty good imperial stout with quite a few glaring flaws.

Black color with a medium light beige head that quickly diminishes. Aroma has notes of toasted malts, black chocolate and ripe dark fruit. Flavor is slightly sweet, toasted and roasted notes, coffee beans and chocolate, barrel notes and ripe plumbs hints. Slightly sweetness in the final with roasted notes and hints of vanilla. Creamy and smooth on palate.

Pours a black beer with a big beige head. Smells coffee, tobacco, chocolate, and a lot of bourbon and a lot of oak. Tastes bitter. In the aftertaste you have pure oak! Not a balanced beer imo.

Das Bier ist schwarz und es hat eine ordentliche cremige bräunliche Schaumkrone. Geruch holzig, Vanille, leicht alkoholisch, gering röstmalzig, wenig Kaffee. Geschmack süß röstmalzig, viel Vanille, holzig, rund, gering alkoholisch.

750mL bottle from trade. Best by May 2013 on the cork. Pours cola brown with a beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate and spent coffee grinds. Taste starts out dark chocolate, coffee. Finishes vegetal, pepper, coffee grinds. I think I should have drank this as soon as I got it.

750 ml bottle shared by Willrunforbeer best by May of 2013 stamped on the cork. Well it smells fine, very chocolatey. Rich Melted chocolate bar with a hint of roast and the lightest note of bourbon. Used coffee grounds are also here.

Well, I got excited for no reason. The chocolate element and roast are still there but the bean has turned lightly acidic which proves to mean again coffee bean beers need to be fresh. And unfortunately not much of a bourbon character to help save it. I’m sure it’s a different animal fresh but this breweries beer can NOT sit.

Opaque black - brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth and airy. Mild fine carbonation. Smooth airy dark malt, trace of cream. Nice amounts of the requisite dark chocolate and coffee. Little dry wood and very mild spice. Semi dry finish with a chocolate and coffee linger. Does what is says on the tin. Smooth and drinkable.
