3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2013 Light sweet chocolate notes on the nose. Pours dark chocolate amber with a nice caramel head. The flavor is similar, roasted chocolate and clean malts, not complex but light and smooth. Second time around had a lot less age and a lot more bourbon alcholo notes, but not biting or too hot.

750mL c&c thanks to wickedpete at Shenandoah Throwdown. The pour is very deep brown to black with a massive brown coffee head. Huge lacing. Nose is rich, sweet cherry cola, vanilla. Taste is thinner, big cocoa, bitter cocoa powder. Not bad. Fairly dense and dessert like in profile.

not my favorite style. although, it’s well done for what it proclaims. black with a creamy white head. very strong aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. a very thick beer. tastes like it smells. a definite sipping beer, not the best for a warm spring day eating brunch at the brewery. better for a cold winter night.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from PPRBSG 2010. Pours a deep dark brown near black with a foamy head. Aroma is a bit mellow- some dusty old chocolate malts, light roast, old coffee, herbal and earthy with a subdued medium bourbon whiskey character light vanilla, and toast,. Flavor is caramel, coffee, chocolate, light fruitiness, some sharp mineral and woodiness in the middle and end and gets a bit earthy and astringent in the finish.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: Pours a very dark chestnut brown with a nice tan head.
S: Very nice with notes of bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, hints of coffee, and some mingling fruit in the background.
T: Somehow the nose did not translate at all to the taste. There is quite a bit too much roast in the flavor, completing dominating everything else that was present in the smell.
M: Quite dry and a bit thin.
D: I could smell this one for quite some time, but the taste left something to be desired. There were some nice flavors in there, but things need to be balanced out just a bit more.
