COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Hollow blends the miracle of two crafts--brewing and distillation--to create a work greater than the sum of its parts. An Imperial Stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels still dripping with uncut whiskey. For 100 days the young beer patiently breathes in and out of the wood, gaining complexity, character, and serious attitude. This ale is always bottle conditioned and can be enjoyed immediately upon its release from the brewery...or five years later, when you dust off the last vintage bottle from your cellar to share with good company.

Bottle. The pour is dark with a nice fading head. The aroma has a smokey bourbon notes to it. The taste mellow with big bourbon notes throughout. A little more smokey than I like. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours balck with tan head. Dark roasty malt nose with some bourbon. Smooth roasty taste. Bourbon is not as strong but there is some boozy warmth as it goes down. Not bad.

(US backlog 2012) 8x draught sample flight at VA brewpub 14/ix/12. As i presume my whole flight consisted exclusively of fresh arrivals from the draught line, this was probably not bottle conditioned and tasted very fresh, i.e. As a fresh Maker’s Mark-infused butterscotch creme desert, a worthy closer of the series. ImpStout’s 70IBUs nearly swallowed by the fresh bourbon sweetness, but creamy, simple and enjoyable. not sure if I need to revisit this aged/bottled though.

Subtile bourbon but really lacks any flavors after that. Tasty but subpar for a bourbon imperial stout, but still really good.

Bottle at Aaron’s. Thanks man! Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head and decent lacing. Tangy, roasty, lightly herbal, dark fruity, nail polish, and aerosol in the aroma. Taste is tangy, dark fruity, grapey, woody, lightly roasty, bready, and caramelly. Medium body with soft carbonation. Something seems a little off in this one.

Bottle @ home courtesy of Steve_0. Pours a dark brown appearance with a dark brown head. Really very grainy woody, herbal, grassy, dark chocolate aroma. Chewy woody, vanilla, herbal, dark fruity, light caramel flavor. Super fresh woody. Not my favorite but ok.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2013 From corked .750l bottle. Pours a deliciously dark dark brown - almost black - with cream colored head. Aroma has powerful bourbon and chocolate flavors. Thick on the tongue. Strong bourbon, coffee, and chocolate influences. Pretty damn good if you ask me. One of the better fresh/non-aged BBL aged chocolate porters I’ve had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Tried it on tap from Ridgewood in Raleigh. Even better on tap.
