COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Hollow blends the miracle of two crafts--brewing and distillation--to create a work greater than the sum of its parts. An Imperial Stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels still dripping with uncut whiskey. For 100 days the young beer patiently breathes in and out of the wood, gaining complexity, character, and serious attitude. This ale is always bottle conditioned and can be enjoyed immediately upon its release from the brewery...or five years later, when you dust off the last vintage bottle from your cellar to share with good company.

One of my all time favorites. Had it on tap at the brewery, instant knock in the face of chocolate, bourbon, and cream. Nitro made the head very creamy and wonderful. Quite the experience.

A dark and tasty treat! After a few twist of the cork, was pleasantly surprised with a dark rich black pour. Taste of oak and roasted malt and pleasant bite of whiskey notes. Hints of coffee and cocoa on the finish. Smooth overall experience. A new favorite! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Strong bourbon aroma which I love. I think it is lacking in body a little and the bourbon flavor hides the maltiness. Pours with a short-lived but beautiful head.

Bottle from Dkachur. Finally I get to try one of my personal white whales. Dark brown pour. Big tan head. Tons of bourbon up front. I mean LOADS of delicous bourbon! Oak, vanilla, and some great roast. Flavor is heavy on the bourbon wtih tons of vanilla, oak, toffee and roast. A really nice beer. Finishes a bit hot, but in a good way for the most part. I hope I get another bottle at some point. Very very good.

batch #2, bottle. Full mouthfeel. Light body but coats the tongue like oil. Very smooth and very complex without being overwhelming. Excellent.

Draught at Ginger Man, NYC. Very dark brown beer with a nice brownish head. Malty vanilla aroma, whisky, cream, figs, plums, smoked notes, peat, toffee, caramel, hoppy notes but most of all this is about pretty much anything you can ask for in the malty area. Malty vanilla flavor, whisky, cream, smoked, fogs, plums, well hidden alcohol, spicy hoppy notes, milky, grapes, pear, roasted, oak notes, some apricot. Malty vanilla and chocolate aroma, hay, pear, oak, whisky and some plum. Just plain wonderful!

Aromas of chocolate, cherries, smoky tar, and coffee. Black with a quickly diminishing, tan head. Some sweetness with perceptible strength, and well balanced bitterness. Full bodied, creamy, and sticky, carbonation is low, and finishes showcasing a strong and well balanced character.

750 mL bottle from Total Wine in Chesapeake, VA (best by March 2013 on cork, 10% ABV). Pours dark brown with a foamy khaki head. Aroma of chocolate and bourbon mostly with notes of oak and coconut. The oak aging is nicely done and offers plenty of vanilla, oak, and coconut to a beer that itself brings plenty of chocolate and coffee to the party. There is certainly some heat with this one but at 10% I would expect there to be. Full bodied. This is barrel aging done right. Very nicely done.

Bottle, caged/corked. This pours with the look of a dark hollow, indeed. As dark as a beer can possibly be, I surmise. Firm but thin tan head of tight foam. The nose is a bit intimidating -- full of dark fruit and whiskey. It drinks with a bit easier tilt. There’s a decidedly bourbon-laden burn, but despite it is easy to quaff. Scary. Very well done, with subtlety and finesse. (#4544, 3/26/2012)
