walter (357), Staunton, Virginia, USA Feb 8, 2008 Very dark brown with tan head. Subdued nose of brown sugar, dry roasted notes, faint dark fruits, and faint yeast-- all very inviting, though. Flavor is intially pretty dry, focused on roasted and bitter chocolate notes, followed by a medium malt sweetness with the slightest fruity twang. Finishes sweet and sticky, with a bit of yeast bite underneath. The hops come through in the finish, definitely an interesting touch. Smooth and creamy throughout, and the alcohol is completely hidden. Overall very subtle, but very well done; I liked it quite a bit!
hopscotch (4433), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 14, 2008 Bottle… O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Part 8… Dark prune-colored ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The earthy, fruity aroma offers leather, horse blanket and dark fruits. Medium-bodied and a little astringent with lively carbonation. Malty with lots of dark fruits and tannic bitterness. Not very sweet. Lengthy, lightly bitter, and then bone-dry finish. Thanks go out to growler for sharing this bottle! Palidor19 (1245), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 22, 2008 The beer looks good but the aroma seems a bit weak. strong flavor of alcohol yet not much Belgian malts goodness. Overall it kinda works but its not spectacular nick76 (2015), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 22, 2008 The aroma is like molasses with yeast, fruit, and hops but it’s weak. The appearance is brown with a foamy, tan head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall a decent beer but weak for the style. Soonah (480), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jun 13, 2008 From dkachur via trade. Thanks again! The pour was gorgeous, look more like a quad than a dubbel to me. Ultra dark with only slight hints of ruby streaming through. The head was perfectly formed, off-white and creamy. The aroma was fairly standard dubbel with the malt and Belgian yeast coming out over some tart fruit and some thin chocolate. The flavor was malt, yeast and cherry with some spices. Unfortunate alcohol heat slips through and the mouthfeel is on the thin side. RichJ7 (859), Cullman, Alabama, USA May 8, 2008 Nice. Tasty and strong. Dark brown pour with a decent beige head. Flavor and aroma are sugary sweet fruit with only a hint of Belgian yeast. Bready, smooth, flavorful.
