Blegian-Style Dubbel Ale
A truly special ale. Evil 8° will blur the lines of what you think you know about American beer. Brewed in the Belgian Abbey style using caramelized Biscuit malt, Goldings hops and a unique strain of brewer’s yeast. 19.3° Plato, 50 IBUs and 7.7% alcohol by volume.

$1.79 bottle from Market Street Wine Shop, Downtown. Pours nearly black with an inch+ of beige head. Aroma of caramel, light raisin. Taste is quite sweet caramel and raisin, some tingly metallic middle, with a sweet raisin finish, A bit too sweet for me, but not bad.

12 oz bottle recently purchased but a little past its BB date anyway. Look: Dark brown; nearly opaque. A little sediment at the bottom, with most added in the pour. Adequate size head (less than a finger) with good retention and leaves spotty lacing Aroma: raisins and other dark dried fruits; alcohol esters; a hint of fresh cut wood. Flavor: Lightly sweet from start to finish with some earthy hops and spicy yeast. Feel: medium body and lively medium+ carbonation. Overall: a decent dubbel, but certainly no match for a good number of fine dubbels from Belgium.

First off, this is a really different dubbel. It is definitely very complex and not really what you would expect. With that said its not a bad thing. It pours up a dark seedy molasses brown with a moderate brown head. The aroma has this wine like smell with dark fruit, and semi sweet root beer cola thing going on. Flavor is the same dark fruit, wine, brandy like sweetness, molasses. The close is mellow, with thick rich malt. Most dubbels are dominated by a similar yeast. Not this one. This one threw me for a loop. In the end I totally enjoyed it, and would highly recommend this brew.

NOPE. Pour is a caramel brown with minimal head. Smell is old caramel and malts. Flavor is too gross malty and old hops and bitter.

[7099-20150304] 12floz bottle. Mild grainy toasted malt aroma. Hazy, dark brown mahogany body with a quick foamy off-white head. Boozy soured yeast malt flavour has a toasted grain undertone. Medium body. Good. (7/3/7/3/15) 3.5

12 oz bottle, thanks Drake! Virginia tick. Aroma consists of jammy fruit, bread, Lucky Charms--interesting. Pours mahogany with a medium beige head with great retention; laces a little. Taste is sweet, savory and roasty; the whole package is reminiscent of buttered toast with raspberry jam. Mouthfeel is creamy, body is medium. I wasn’t expecting too much from this one; I haven’t had a good dubbel in awhile. A nice surprise!
