3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2015-03-04. Very dark brown-black body with a small tan head. 3+ Aroma of sweet malt, light cocoa and burnt sugars. Flavour is similar, sugary brown sugar, light tang. A bit odd overall, not really to my tastes. Smooth average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Bottle shared by solidfunk.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle to snifter. Pour is deep, deep red, to brown; minimal off white head. Aroma is grapey and oxidized. Not sure how long this one has been cellared. Some dried fruit aroma in there too. Taste is slightly winy with a red grape flavor, prickly on the tongue. Moderate papery oxidation. Ok, but even fresh, I doubt it would impress me much. Very thin, a little alcohol, not much going on.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is distinctly different from most Belgian dubbels I’ve tried. It had a murkier flavor, rather than the brightness of a classic dubbel like Duvel. It’s not a bad beer at all, but I was expecting something fresher and cleaner tasting. There was something odd about the bitterness and sweet that I felt wasn’t balanced, and the mouthfeel was more syrupy than I would have liked.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle from Xroads. Poured a nice looking medium density dark brown with super sunburnt orange edges under a dense smaller super long lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is nice, notes of light chocolate, Belgian yeast, raisin, touch of vinegar at first that fades completely and a slight cucumber note fades in, wet nuts and warm biscuit. Flavor is sweet with light chocolate and dark fruit to start but fades to roasty malt, biscuit and medium toast, followed by yeast, nuts and a touch of tea leaves. Good stuff.
