Floral, cherry, berry, and raisin aromas. Clear amber-bronze with a moderately retaining, off-white head. Some sweet, fruity flavors, dry, bready flavors, and some floral, bitterness. Medium body, fluffy carbonation, spicy and a fruity finish.

12oz bottle from Xroads. Poured a nice looking medium density dark brown with super sunburnt orange edges under a dense smaller super long lasting creamy beige head. Aroma is nice, notes of light chocolate, Belgian yeast, raisin, touch of vinegar at first that fades completely and a slight cucumber note fades in, wet nuts and warm biscuit. Flavor is sweet with light chocolate and dark fruit to start but fades to roasty malt, biscuit and medium toast, followed by yeast, nuts and a touch of tea leaves. Good stuff.

Pretty decent for an American dubbel. A bit too much on the sweet candy side, lots of molasses and plum as well. Tried this at the DC beerfest with Jess, Mark, and Matt in 2014.

On tap at Scion restaurant in Silver Spring, MD. Opaque, brown-black with a khaki head and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt , dark fruit, toffee, cocoa, coriander and yeast. Taste of roasted malt, dark fruit, cocoa, caramel, coriander, yeast, charred malt and mild spices. Medium body and medium/high carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A really different dubbel. It pours chocolate brown with an average head/lace. The aroma has this spicy, sarsaparilla thing. Root beer and apple butter show up in the nose. More candy notes in the flavor. Molasses, horehound, biscuits ... flavors I associate with Granny’s kitchen. The close is a really mellow, rich malt. Most dubbels are, to my taste, dominated by a similar yeast. Not this one. This one threw me for a loop, and I like that.

12 oz. bottle. Color is deep ruby with thin ring of white head. Aroma is hints of dark fruit, molasses and caramelized sugar.

Flavor really is not enjoyable for me. The yeast or the malt is off. Old funky berries, molasses and astringent dark grain. Off bitter chocolate notes. Not sure if this is a bad bottle or just really pour brew. Pass.

dark brown reddish hues. Nose is fruity and sweet. Taste is velvet figs and blackberries but overall, yucky.

Best by May of 2014.
Appearance: The body is a beautiful ruby/garnet that is opaque without a bright light. The light shows a brilliant clarity. The had is short and dense, settling into a latte-esque brown coating.
Aroma: The aroma leans a little sweet with brown sugar and fig being the most prominent aromas. There’s a touch of booze, but it’s pleasant, with a hint of spice and medicinal qualities. I really enjoy the complexity of this along with the balance. This is inviting and intriguing.
Taste: Big fruity raisin flavors are apparent throughout being a very prominent flavor. There’s a touch of caramel on the finish with a hint of spices and a touch of booze. A slight medicinal quality lingers on the tongue, but not overbearing. Definitely very fruity, leaning mildly sweet.
Palate: Full-bodied with soft carbonation that prickles a little bit by the end.
Overall: This is a damn good dubbel, as good as most I’ve had from Belgium. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new Dubbel to try.

Bottle, enjoy by 05/2014, and the 75th rating for this beer. Nose is lightly nutty, roasty, even some char in with the meaty malt, faint smoke. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Taste is lightly sweet and fruity, nice swirling malt; the roast is backed off, but there’s still some nice Maillard complexity. Crystal and faintly earthy, and there’s a very faint note of DMS. Goldings are bright and lively but small in number. Lightly minerally, smooth medium body perfect for a Dubbel. Alcohol extremely well hidden. A fun one to drink, not exactly clean, but other flavor components are fresh and we’ll just chalk it up to character.
