12oz bottle from Beer Run. Best by: 12/2012. Clear amber color. Thin film of white head. Thicker on the ends. Some dots of lace. Some very interesting tropical fruity flavor to this. Like a grape jolly rancher, I want to say. Lighter carbonation, dry finish, super fruity-hop aftertaste. Bitter with the hops, but at the same time, a very candy-like sweetness, and a mild tartness to it. Very interesting pale ale for sure.

Translucent copper with a foamy beige head. Full body with medium-high carbonation.

Aroma: sticky citrusy hop resins, sweet bready pale and crystal malts, and a complex yeasty character.

Taste: stoney minerality, husky toasted malt tanins, piney hop bitterness, medium/dark crystal malt, yeast bite.

Body fullness and flavor intensity are certainly beyond that of a pale ale.

Originally reviewed: 10/13/10. Another great bottle received from CrellMoset recently (BA). Thanks! I’m really enjoying this brewery. 12oz bottle poured into a conical pint. Dark amber/orange hues capped off by a small creamy beige head. Fair retention; lots of sticky lace left in the wake. I’m getting a sharp smack of pine in the nose right away. Nice! Either I’m getting used to it, or it fades nicely into an earthy floral scent. I like the smell of this one. The body is par for the style. Moderate carbonation. Not too light, but not overly filling. Good beer for lunch. This is definitely on the more bitter side of APAs. IBUs clock in at 60. I think the hops are blended very well with a touch of sweet caramel malts. Balance leans ever-so-slightly in the bitter hops favor, but that’s not a bad thing. I like the bitter side of this beer. Well done, Blue Mountain! And thanks again, Chris!
