(US backlog 2012) 8x draught sample flight + full pint at VA brewpub 14/ix/12. Standout beer in the flight, a conventional but well-executioned APA with a modest but home-made feel and taste to it, especially in the hops: leafy, orange zest, candied touches. Bit unstable, but worth ordering a full pint of - would like to try this signature beer from a can/bottle.

Can. Clear deep golden amber color, thick, bright white head, solid lacing. Aroma of fresh lime. Taste is bitter citrus. Interesting.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz from beer run. Grassy kind of fruity aroma. Flavor has much the same with a mild hop profile, full body and lots of caramel malt. Finish has a little bit of red fruit and a grassy hay herbal finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Chestnut colored with an inch of tan head. Aroma is sweet, juicy citrus, with some floral notes. All this comes through in the taste, and it’s extremely drinkable. $2/12oz

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Best before July, 2013.
Appearance: The body is a clear amber to copper with a towering light tan head. The head has excellent retention with a very dense consistency and leaves a lot of lacing.
Aroma: Light grapefruit, orange and floral notes are met by caramel and toasted malts. This is a classic aroma for the style, though I wish the hops had a little more presence.
Taste: Sweet caramel is on the intro followed quickly by sweet orange and slightly bitter grapefruit. The finish is of toasted malts and a floral dryness, the finish sticks around for a bit. Bitterness is mild to moderate.
Palate: Medium body with moderate carbonation.
Overall: This is a classic take on the style. The citrusy and floral hops are balanced nicely by the toasted and caramel malts. The price is the only deterrence here, $13 for a six pack of a slightly better Sierra Nevada Pale Ale makes this a pass for me every time. If this were $9 for a 6 pack then I would consider it over SNPA.

12 oz can served in a snifter. Dark, clear amber -- a bit darker than average for style -- with a near creamy bone colored head that has moderate retention and very good lacing. More flavorful, including a tad more hoppy, than average, with a nice mix of fruity/herbal/grassy hops.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear amber with a highly foamy off-white head. Smells of dark breads, flowers, citrus, hint of spruce. Taste is sweet and bitter - bready malt, peppery hops, grassy, hint of earthiness.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz can. Looks amber. Aroma of citrusy and piney hops, some light malts and dough. Flavor the same, with a good amount of hops for a pale ale. Average texture. Not a bad beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz can pours a clear, amber with some thin, lacing white head. Nose is nice, resinous, orange, grapefruit, pine, honey. Flavor is the same, cracker, biscuit, orange peel, dried lemon, some malt, slightly floral, lit one. Medium, dry, bitter finish. Very drinkable.
