A hybrid beer unlike any other. Belgian fermentation, American hops, Virginia foothills deep-well water and Kentucky bourbon barrels. Bizarrely delicious.

12.7oz bottle. Poured an amber color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of fruitiness, candi sugar, caramel, and yeast. Tastes of the same fruitiness, lighter wood, and spices. If I had this blind, would not have guessed it was aged in bourbon barrels.

12oz corked bottle into Trappist glass; deep golden-hued amber color, some yeast bits with a finger of creamy light tan head. Aroma of earthiness (like musty wood), orange citrus, pine, pepper and other yeast spices. Taste adds notes of caramel, dough, honey, orange zest, faint vanilla and fruity yeast. Medium body, low-moderate carbonation, dry with bitter oaky finish. Interesting fruity-oaky Belgian, quite nice on this rainy day.

Pours a hazed amber brow with nice soft off white head. Light bodied with an earthy dominance a some red apple character...very light bourbon and wood notes in the finish. Aroma is like musty soaked wood. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasted from draft. Pours a slightly cloudy ruby with white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, caramel, spices and yeast. Taste is a very nice well balanced IPA with belgian yeast and spices. Moderate clean bitter taste with a medium sweet malt backbone. Citrus, pine, belgian yeast flavors with some caramel and toffee. Very good belgian style pale ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

@ Whole Foods Market / Asheville NC --- Clear dark orange-brown, frothy 2" head that never drops below 1/2", solid sheet of lace. Taste is malt at the beginning, adding toast and mild citrus hops in the palate, with a slight bit of bourbon in the finish. All this at 6.6% makes it a complicated full-bodied brew. Interesting, but doesn’t hook me in the end.

Orange zest smell. Tastes like orange cake, slightly bitter and hoppy, but very smooth going down. Lemongrass, citrus, chamomile, mandarin oranges.

Aromas of orange peel and some lemon grass. Hazy orange with a mostly fading white head. Floral and fruity flavors, a definite Belgian yeast influence with somewhat spicy phenols, and a well balanced malt to hops profile. Medium bodied, very smooth, good carbonation, a little sticky, lingering fruity hops in the finish.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear light copper body under a one inch frothy off-white head that faded to a thin covering. The nose is quite interesting, some very light caramel, light fruitiness, a touch of bourbon, some slightly funky Belgian yeast, and some minimal hops. Rather easy drinking with quite a mix of flavors going on, none of which really dominate. There’s almost a bit of a light brett yeast influence on the finish of this. Nice light thin caramel malt, some spicy and fruity notes, and just a bit of oak and bourbon on the finish. One of the more well-done bourbon aged beers, it adds a nice accent without being overpowering. Light to medium bodied with a slight cling and soft fizzy active carbonation. This is pretty tasty, I can’t help but think that there’s a slight greet infection to this beer, but I think it actually makes it better.

Poured from 750 ml bottle after cellaring over 16 months (ignoring the "Best by: MAR-2013" admonition on the cork). Hazy, dark orange-copper with noticeable suspended fine sediment, a 2-finger fine dark cream-colored head and very good lacing. Aroma of pine, light fruit, orange peel, yeast, pepper, old logs, earthiness, spices and sour dough bread. Taste of earthy yeast, caramel, light fruit, pepper, sour dough bread, forest duff, spicy orange and biscuit malt. Medium/full body and low/medium carbonization. I probably aged this bottle too long. I suspect it has lost some of its original character. Nevertheless, it remains a complex and tasty brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
