The biggest beer we’ve ever brewed at Blue Mountain, coming in at almost 12 percent alcohol by volume. But it’s also one of the lightest-colored brews we’ve ever created! Brewed solely with Pilsner and Vienna malts, and we used the same amount of barley it would take to make 1000 gallons and packed into just 500 gallons worth of the smoothest, fullest-bodied, strongest winter brew you’ve ever had. This lager defies most standard beer categorization (Germans would put it in the Doppelbock category), but we’re calling it a blonde Triplebock. The name says it all... It won’t take many of these and a long winter’s nap will be all you’re capable of doing.

Keg @ Blue Mountain. Light Amber with a small head. Honeyed white toast. Apricot jellies. Taste is slightly hot. Booze and bread. Syrupy. Classy euro strong lager manouvres. Full body, soft carb. Actually good for what it is. Grolsch Kanon has nothing on this.

Decent. Pours hazy orange/yellow with a creamy white head. Interesting aroma, notes are malt and light fruit. Light booze notes, sticky finish.

Bottle, best by July 2014.
Appearance: Clear golden orange body with sediment in suspension. The head is huge and fine, fading semi-quickly. The head has a light tan hue.
Aroma: Big and malty, biscuits, butter, caramel and playdoh. The aroma is malty with an odd assortment of characteristics.
Taste: A bit too malty, caramel and biscuit are strong with a slight butter presence. Booze is present from start to finish, though mildly, but noticed mostly on the finish. Very malty but not very pleasant. There’s a slight metallic tinge by the finish.
Palate: Full-bodied, light in carbonation.
Overall: I really wanted to like this, but it falls a bit flat. I get that it’s malty but I’m getting some diacetyl and mild tinny flavors that shouldn’t be here. I’d give this a try again next year.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite, 3/24/14

Aroma: The nose is sweet, with caramel malt, dough, spice, and some German yeast
Appearance: Pours a clear orange color with a creamy off-white head and some fairly strong lace
Flavor: Similar flavor component-wise, complex, rich, and sweet, with a light bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full (leaning full), with a smooth feel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty interesting beer. I think they did a good job with this beer. There’s a lot going on here, but it doesn’t come off as muddled. Good to see a flavorful and interesting lager, we could use more of these in the American craft scene.

A big beer, worth trying, and fresh from New Jersey. Big foaming head leaving a lace trail. Smooth mouthfeel and a light bitterness in a malting, better as it warms. Like an ice bock.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 7/2014. Pours slightly hazy orange copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with moderate streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big biscuit, toast, raisin, apple, pear, apricot, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big biscuit, toast, raisin, apple, pear, apricot, caramel, brown bread, brown sugar, light nuttiness, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Zero bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of biscuit, toast, raisin, pear, apple, apricot, caramel, brown bread, brown sugar, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately slick, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice doppelbock. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/bready malt and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

2012 bottle pours clear amber pour with ring of white head. Big honey sweetness with hints of cantaloupe, cane sugar, and honey. Typical triple character, though, a bit flat and oxidized and twinge of metallic. Not really that great, and seems one diminsional and boring. But for 10%, it is fairly smooth. Meh. Not worth picking up again.
