UPDATED: JAN 31, 2013 Aromas of cocoa, roasted coffee, nuts, toffee, toast, earth, and slight citrus fruit. Clear, very dark brown with red highlights, the head is khaki and retains moderately. Light sweetness, complemented by perceptible strength, and some bitter roastiness and smoke; great balance. Medium body, low carbonation, and a dry, toasty finish with some lingering fruity and nutty flavors.

Mahogany brown colour. Huge amounts of dark, sweet malts in the aroma. This is replicated in the flavour too. Some chocolatey notes in the finish. The dryness offered by the alcohol balances the malty sweetness well.

somewhere in Virginia: Pours light brown with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel and plenty of malt. Taste is sweet and kind of mild for a Scotch ale. Fortunately, this was not cloying or too thick, as I think some of this style are. Pretty easy to drink. Not bad, but not exciting.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2015 Po przelaniu do szkła tworzy się niewielka średnio pęcherzykowa piana dość ładnie oblepiająca szkło, barwa ciemnego bursztynu, mocnej herbaty, dość klarowne, choć pływają drobinki od chmielu bądź drożdży. W aromacie przede wszystkim słodowe nuty melanoidynowe ciemnego pieczywa, lekka torfowość i rodzynki. Choć moim zdaniem najbliżej mu właśnie do BW, to jednak jest troszkę lżejsze, bardziej pijalne i z wyraźną nutą torfowej whisky.

Deep copper and light amber coloured body with a ruby glow and a nice two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, pit fruits, prunes, caramel, earth and a bit of light nuts. Medium-bodied; Sweet, syrupy flavours with caramel and earth the strongest, showing a good dose of pit fruits, some caramel malt and a bit of biscuits with yeast. Aftertaste is quite nice and relatively straight forward with some malt, caramel, toffee, earth and a bit of metal on the finish. Overall, a decent and nice beer, somewhat cloying and a little depth from the earth and caramel but a smooth finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 31-January-2015 for US$1,99 sampled at home in New Paltz, New York on 21-March-2015.
